Question about Brinkmann Smoke N Pit

Hello all.. I've been doing my research on this grill after I bought it and I can upon this great site. I did most of the mods already with the exhust and the temp guages on closer to the grill. However I'm wondering about the Baffel off the hot box. I have 2 questions with this. I cant figure out how to secure the baffel to the grill without puttin holes in the side of the grill and the other thing is the adjustable shield that sits on the bottom of the grill. Is that really needed and can I use something else in the bottom of the grill to catch the grease or is it best to keep it. Any help would be great. My friends going to be coming over to do some welding for me on it such as adding a extra shelf on the side and maybe the baffel and someother things.
