I was wondering what type of camera most people use. I myself have an obsolete Sony 3 1/2 floppy that won't work with my computer. I have a guy building me a new pc and as far as talking pictures of Q-View and uploading what would be the best for this purpose. And what type of portal or slot thingy should I have installed on the new pc. Now take BBQ Bubba for example; his picture are ( I hate this word but have to use it ) AWSOME. I'm sure it's not just the camera that make his food look great, he is just a damn good smoke chef.

I have an older Casio QV-R62 6.0 megapixel that I normally use for smoke pics. If I wanted to use my wifes she has a Canon Rebel XTi 10 megapixel for nicer shots but she would kill me if I got any food on it or dropped it; so I just use my old faithfull !!!

I have two camera's I use. But to be honest with you, it depends on how much your willing to spend. I fell in love with the Nokia D40, it by far has taken the best pictures I have ever taken. It cost me just under $1000 but it is worth every dime in my book!

My beat up all round travel camera is my Kodak easy share 8.5 megapixel it takes great pictures, but IMHO it cant even come close to touching my Nokia.

yep I agree with eveyone...depends on how much you want to spend and how good you want your pictures. You can find a pretty decent little camera for 2-300.00 for taking good enough pictures to post. Just remember the higher the pixel count the cleaner the picture. Good luck.

I gotta simple cheap lil Powershot A560 by Canon. I think it does alright and I think we paid about 250-260 for it. Chip comes out easy, and slides into the SD/MMC reader, and then into the front of this old Pc.

There are many different cameras used on this forum. i see alot of Kodak Easyshares and Canons. Personally I shoot with my Olympus C-740 or my Nikon D50. Most digitals now adays are pretty competitive with each other, the main difference is the person behind the camera. I have shot professional for over 35 years now. People have a tendency to stick the cameras in Auto mode and shoot away. Bad mistake. Learn your camera and it will take great photos for you.
All you need is USB hookups on your new PC, the camera will hook right up to it. Looking for a new camera, don't get caught up in the megapixel myth. A good 4 meg camera is more than enough for the average joe. My main camera for qview is my 3 meg Olympus.

Great site for camera reviews:

I have an older Minolta D'image 5 that I use a lot as it does really good closeups. I have a Cannon G6 that I use sometimes as well. It has more pixels, but I really like using the old Minolta.

I shoot with a old olympus here-been thinking of a upgrade.

I use an olympus c-4000 C that is a 4 megger. I also agree that you want to keep that sucker OFF of auto focus. Also, if your cam has a slow setting for your flash, I suggest using that as well. Lastly, I also agree that anything more than 4 megs for pics of the size that we use for web pages is overkill. Cams that have 6-10 megs are really great for 8x10 pics or larger but for web pages, 4 megs are perfectly fine and I would not spend over 150 for these types of pics. For more personal use, get a nicer camera but expect to pay much more. Hope this helps.

You've gotten a lot of good advice thus far and I can't add much except to say, make sure you load the right driver onto your PC so your camera will download correctly.

If your camera didn't work with the old PC, it sounds like your driver was corrupted or missing. When you get a camera, a CD will come with it and it will install all the needed drivers to download, etc.

Most PC's are very touchey about adding new "hardware" before the software/drivers are added. Same thing with printers a lot of times. Use the CD and follow the directions "BEFORE" you ever attempt to plug the camera into the PC via the USB cable.

Just follow the directions and it's easy. However, I know I have jumped the "directions" gun before and sometimes it can be painful.

I have used an older Minolta Z1 (point and shoot) and a newer Pentax K100D (digital SLR) to shoot my Q-view. If you are in the market for a new digital, I would suggest that you look at the Canon A720. It's a small point and shoot that I just got for a project at work. It has a lot of the toys that my Pentax has but with the convenience of a point and shoot with 8 megapixels and a 6X optical zoom. It is also competitively priced.

Hope this helps.

Take care, have fun, and do good!

Meowey

I use a Sony cybershot 6megpix, Zeiss lens.
Choose this one cause of battery.
Had to Kodak's and another Off-brand one that all used AA or AAA batteries. Even with re-chargable batteries they never seemed to take many pics before going dead.
With this one I can take 200+ pics before it starts to go.

After reading the past few comments, I realized I wasted a lot of money on a digital camera.... I always thought the more megapixels and cost, the better the camera... now I know im stupid and am kicking myself for buying the canon elf SD 630 last year. I love the pictures it takes, but i think it was definitely an overkill hahha.... now i think the most important thing is when considering buying a digital camera is to truly understand how they work. if you have that much, you can purchase a great camera for a decent price.

Trouble is now adays it is getting harder and harder to find the lower megapixel cameras due to everything being pushed on public is 6 meg and up. Shoot a two meg camera is fine for the internet.

Taken with my 2 meg Olympus C-700

Taken with my 3 meg Olympus C-740 (I take 95% of what you see on here with this camera)

Taken with my 6 Meg Nikon D50

One thing to remember is that a computer monitor can only show so much resolution. This is the reason the larger megapixel camera have photos that appear so HUGE when you put them on net. Its like the only way they can say they are better. (bigger is better) But if you reduce the photo down to 8 inches wide and put it against a 3 meg cameras photo at 8 inches wide, you would be hard pressed to tell the difference. The real difference can be seen when you print the image out on photographic paper, there the larger megapixel camera will win hands down. I have made great looking 8 x 10s with my lowly 3 meg camera.

Floppies are definatly outdated and don't hold verymany pictures.
As far as "slot thingies". Card readers are not usually required for camera's these days. Most of them just use the USB ports.
I've been using the sony cybershots for some time now and have been real pleased. The 7.2mp takes a real good pictures even though the get reszed before posting Q-View.

I have a 2GB memory stick in the camera but I still use the usb port to upload pictures. As far as the software that comes with camera, Personally it makes a good coaster. The windows utility works best for me.
Quick and easy! I use other sofwares to edit with.

I use a Sony FD Mavica, it will use either a 3 1/2 inch floppy or the memory card. I use a memory card most of the time, I can take that to the store and print pictures from it, print pics at home on our photo printer and my computer has a slot in front for the memory card. It is only 1.2 Mega pixels, but have always gotten very good pictures with it. Just my opinon. Oh, I do like it because it has upto a 10X zoom that is hard to find nowadays.

Tip.

I have a Sony Cybershot 4.1 megapixels
when I'm taking pics for qviews I set the quality at vga/e-mail, makes a decent picture at a low res so it loads fine on here as an attachment
