Pre-tubed casing

I have read very conflicting views on pre-tubed casings.

My hands have been having problems. Two weeks ago I was diagnosed with carpal tunnel. So until that gets resolved I am having a hell of a time with casings.

Does anyone who has used the pre-tubes have any input? Do they work or not? Are they junk like I have read?

I used some the first time I made sausage some years ago. Can't recall the brand but worked out good as intended.

I have no problems whatsever with them... There are times when they get pulled over top of itself and become awkward to get them off the tube... But you just have to pull them back the opposite way until they become free...

If you get some and don't like them , just strip them off the tubes .
I recently bought some 32mm from Syracuse casing . I like to store them wet , so I ended up taking them off the tubes .

Then I went back and bought 22mm sheep casings , pre tubed from same place .
First attempt to use them didn't go that well ( my fault ) . Made an adjustment , and they work great .
I'll buy sheep casings pre tubed from now on . Same with the hog , but I'll still strip them off .

So to the question ,
Do they work or not?
Yes .
Are they junk like I have read?
No .
 
I like pretubed, most producers say they reserve the best and longest casings for their pretubed. Casings are rated A, Aa, B, etc for quality, and where they actually discuss it, the best AA are listed as tubed. So for me it's just a quality issue. Also easier to use, store, keep untangled, and price difference was negligible to me.

I am the same as chopsaw chopsaw , I actually strip the casings off their tubes to use them, and rinse/soak them first, then put on the stuffer tube. Stripping casings directly from plastic to stuffer tube either requires using way too small a stuffer tube, or impossible.

I liked Butcher Pantry best for stated quality and price, and they use only hogs from US or Denmark, no Chinese... supposedly that means better control on their food additives, as well as breeds that give better more tender casings, but I don't know about veracity of all that.

Last night I spent just over an hour untangling sheep casings. That was it for me. I will check out the butchers pantry. Thanks!

Here's the general idea . These are sheep .
I can store those wet on the tubes because of the size .

Slide the tube on the horn , and pull off what you need .
The mistake I made the first time , was I put to many on the horn .

Get the amount you want on the horn , and pull the tube off and cut the casing for length .
Leave the unused on the tube .

Worked great really . Especially with 22mm sheep casings .

I'm going to order some. I just went to the butchers pantry.

Prices are pretty good too. I normally just buy from my local store, the only place around here that sells stuff is sportsman's warehouse.

I do not internet much, I suck at it. But I like that website, they had a much better price than the lem casings I have been getting at sportsman's.

The place I used to live I could just get a hank from the butcher for cheap, that was nice.
 
i do the exact same as above...by them pretubed and remove the plastic tubing so i can store them in a salt solution after i rinse and clean them.... they slide on and off much easier that way and are really easy to handle once they Are silky and smooth form the salt solution..... prior to use them i get what i need and rinse them in fresh water and alittle bit of baking soda ....... before i did this is used it right on the plastic tubing after i soaked for a few hours, i had nothing but problems and blow out and it get stuck on the plastic and on the horn.
