Was going to put this somewhere in the gardening section but wasn't sure where to place it so in General Discussion it goes.

So I was outside cutting up a pine tree today, while I was cleaning the branches up I noticed something running through the grass and was surprised to see a praying mantis. Last year I bought 3 egg sacs and released them once they hatched.
I love these beneficial bugs so I picked him up and set him on top of one of my pepper plants.

Nearing the end of gardening season, wish I found him when the Colorado potato beetles were out and about.

I didn't take you for a bug lover there Fire. But it is cool I have seen them a few times around the house and really don't give them much thought.

Jim-mine is pretty errr...LOL

This one was in my basil i let go to seed for same reason-love them good creatures

To think some people call me strange..LOL i prefer outside the box...

Thanks for sharing.........They make a b.t just for colorado potato beetle-spray it and they are done...I have squished millions of bad bugs though..............

I try to be Environmentally conscientious and green/organic when I can so I do all of my gardening 100% organic which companion planting and attracting beneficial insects helps a lot with that.

Now that one actually looks a lot more like the ones I released last year, this is one of my favorite pictures I have seen of one...

Ma Dutch has a Praying Mantis that patrols her plants in the bay window. About once a week, she'll be attracted to the light above the stove and I find myself herding her back over to the plants.

We had a huge forest fire just east of town in 1995 lost 19 houses. The outskirts of town had a lot of rattlesnakes show up escaping the fire and many walls around town had a mantis or two on them. I was surprised at just how many there were. Normally you might see one a year or so.

I couldn't believe the size of some of them.

Check out this Mantus killed a hummingbird.
