Pork Butt?

    Is pork Butt just used for polled pork or is there other uses??

    Many other uses, a fair amount of what gets labled "country style ribs" in stores is just butt cut in strips, you can grind it for sausage, recommended for "buckboard bacon", numerous crock pot recipes.........

    Yep, all good choices. I suppose if you can imagine it you can do it. Such as slicing, dicing, chopping, grinding .. heck put it in a blender and puree it to a pork butt smoothie if you want. [​IMG] Sounds tastey huh?

    In general I would say yes, but as always there is a "But". Some folks take it out a little earlier and slice it. Sandwiches are not the only thing to do with the meat once it is cooked. Once you have 5 to 8 pounds of a butt cooked up you have a good bit of meat that can be used in other reciepes like burritos and tamales or stuffing peppers and such. You will burn out on pulled pork if you smoke a butt and just eat pulled pork sandwiches for a week straight. Consider freezing a good portion for a rainy day and get flexible in your serving ideas. I got to tell ya though, one of my favorite pulled pork dishes is pulled pork atop a baked potato with a bacon ranch dressing. It is simple and very filling.

    Here in Iowa some people slice them and grill'em as a pork steak. My girls like pulled pork on corn chips or doritos with sour cream ,cheese and bbq sauce. we did that for a slumber party and all the girls wanted to come back again, mostly for the food.

    Pulled pork is a very versitile product... I use it in chilli, spaghetti sauce, pizza, stir fry... the list goes on. [​IMG]

    I use them for making Deli ham meat also like boiled ham and cappricolla - you just need large sausage casings

    I put it on a wheat bun and load it with bbq sauce and sliced pickles. I don't have much of an imagination!

    I have to admit that I don't get creative until after about day three because that is when the buns usually have run out.[​IMG]

    I have to get creative butts are cheap and I smoke em every weekend gotta find something new to do or I'd be sick of pulled pork! [​IMG]

    I smoked 2 butts last weekend for pulled pork and sent the left overs with the in-laws and I am smoking two more for pulled pork today. Got a 65 lb. case of 10 of them for $1.12 a pound at Sam's Club. Good stuff !!!
