Out of stock here. Even shipping says out of stock. Thank goodness! LoL
My wife would probably shoot me if I drug another smoker home. Especially since I have a home built one already and a 22 WSM That I haven't even built a fire in. LoL

Someone posted about this before and I looked at the only Academy in Va, which is about 3 hours one way for me. Shipping was ridiculous... can't remember the actual number but if I recall it was north or $100. Either way, enjoy the new smoker!

Nice ! Gonna be fun to learn and use . You might as well enjoy yourself .
Spent more than half my life making sure everyone else had what they needed , and some of what they wanted .
If I want it I'm buying it .
Post up as you get into it . Enjoy .

They have a couple here but I am resisting!
You're wiser than I .

I'm already having a touch of buyers remorse, and I've not smoked with it yet. Its disappointing that there's no way to control temp, as other drums have. Maybe there's a reason these are deeply discounted ????

However, I bought this with direct heat cooking in mind. And specifically to cook yardbird. I've been smoking some delicious chicken on my 18" WSM, using direct high heat. For me, its the best way to smoke yardbird.

But on the 18 WSM, I've got a problem with crowding the cooking grate. Four chicken halves cover almost the entire grate. Now I will have the option to hang the birds or put them on a grate with plenty of room.

The only way to find out if a drum is better for this, is to try it . And at this price tag, its not a big risk. If it does not work out, I can sell this for close to what I paid for it.

They have racks for the 18"WSM to hang ribs and birds on. I haven't tried it myself but I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on one soon.

Yeah, I'm aware of that, but hanging is not my primary objective. And if I did, a good source has a hanger for a 22, and he's not entirely happy with it.

Also, the hanger might cost me as much as I paid for this drum.

I clicked on the link and it wants me to prove that I'm human. Now that's an impossible task.

Chris

Been there, done that ............... this past summer, I finally gave in and tried to open a Facebook page. After many years of avoiding it.

Facebook wanted me to send them a pic of a photo ID. I sent a pic of my DL.

Then they said it was not enough, they wanted another pic. I sent it.

Then they apologized for the trouble and gave me a temporary password to open my account. It did not work. I told them about it and never heard back. I gave up.

I only wanted a FB page for barbecue groups and to join Kosmos Secret Stash club. I've been using Mrs Okies FB account. I've gotta wonder if FB did this due to the election and bots.

Okie,
Once you get to using that drum I think you are going g to like it. I have a good friend out in western Kansas that turns out some great Q on one. I looked it over pretty good and the quality was there. I would have got one but at the time I had an 18" WSM. I also wondered about no temp control. I guess the idea is 'it is done when it's done'. It definitely works.
Congrats on a great buy.

Here's what I've been doing on my 18" WSM. And I like this cook, a lot. I've been cooking chicken on Kettles and WSM for 35 years, and this is the best way I've found.

But the extra room of a 22" grate will be welcome, and this is much cheaper than a 22" WSM.

My only possible draw back now, is the distance between the coal bed and the cooking grate. On the 18 WSM , its about 18", roughly. Best I can figure on this PBX, its either 12" or 22 " . I might have to add some extra supports in between those two.

But I will give hanging a go. I might like that better.

I'm already having a touch of buyers remorse,
That's normal . I do the same .

This may or may not help . Something I was messing with for my kettles . Might be an idea there somewhere , but adding extra supports would be way cheaper .

I really wanted it to raise the fire for grilling steaks . Needed to be shorter .

Then maybe a greater distance from the heat source . Never really panned out .

Here's what PBC used to support the cooking grate. I think I just need to get to the hardware store and find something similar, that I can bolt on to the side of the barrell.
