Sorry everyone. Have pics of my last few smokes, and a few things I was doing for prep to use a new smoker but I don't agree with their policy about asking for personal info and credit card #'s. I don't use 'em anyway and especially online.

I'm on the Do Not Call Registry for 2-1/2 months now and don't need more telemarketers or junk mail, or junk email. Them jerks don't check the list anyway, so you have to file a complaint to get 'em to stop calling. It's just not good practice to devulge personal data anyway, and especially when you're trying to keep your mailbox empty and phone line open. Sorry, but trust has to be earned, and I have no reason to beleive that it won't cause more problems for me.

I did not have to give any of that type of info when I started my account. But I am just using the free account type. Were you trying to get the pro account?

Must of been, I've been using Photobucket for years and i have donated a few bucks but have never been asked for any personal info.

I was never asked for any personal info from photobucket ever. I gave them my secondary email for update notices, etc. and have never had a problem with them.

I have heard of a mimick site that looks like PB , but asks for that personal info

They may have changed recently , or have optional blanks " to be more secure

" , but E-mail addy and password should be all that's required.

Upload from c drive. Fine. Other BS for GET it.
I really tried once, gave up and that's it.
It shouldn't be a hassle.

When I try to start-up an account @ photobucket I have to fill in all fields on the pages including:1st & last name, email address, gender, Yr/Mo/Day born, Zip Code, captcha code (recant the symbols on their page). Tried to find a back door in, no luck there.

I believe thats what I had to put in but no credit card info and I've not heard a word from them or solicitors for the couple years I've had a free account with them

Same here Piney.

The only thing that has to be legit is the email address and that's only if you want them to be able to reset your password in case you forget it. All of the other info can be made up. If your not worred about forgetting your password, make up the email address too. Nunya Bizniz is a popular First Name, Last Name combo. There are probably thousands of accounts set up that way.

Use 12345 as the zip and leave the cell phone blank or make that up as well.

Imageshack needs zipped files (my photo qaulity settings on this camera must be pretty high or something). The file sizes are running in the high 500KB! A Zipped file only saves me about 3% on size. Just started using this camera a couple days ago. Maybe I need to check it out more and figure out whether or not the photo file size can be dropped down without losing too much resolution.

Anyway, gotta get ready for work in the morning...later, and thanks everyone.

There are many free image host sites out there. Imageshack, Photocave, and the one you mention, Photobucket to name a few.

If you were asked for personally identifiable info and a credit card, it's possible that you clicked on the wrong link and it guided you to a premium membership sign up page. Other than that, they are all free and only ask you to create a username, password, and email address. I've used free image hosting for years and have never been asked for anything more than the bare essentials to create an account.

As for the size of the files, it's depends on your camera settings. For example. You can take an original image at 1024x768 at highest resolution and it looks great. You resize it to half the size but you dont get much compression. The reason is that the resized image may look smaller, but still contains enough info to expand it beyond it's original size and still look good.

Try changing the settings on your camera to take the highest quality picture at a smaller size. You'll have to experiment to see what works best for your camera. I could be wrong, but I'm guessing it's set right now for high resolution and large images. Hope this helps.

Probably atleast a 5 or 6 meg camera. That is one thing good about Photobucket since you can set you image upload size. Of course the larger your file, the longer it will take to upload it. And if you are in the woods and still on dial-up it may take awhile to upload large files. At any rate, use 800 x 600 max here on the fourm. This will keep your image within the bounderies of most computer screens and keep us from having to scroll right to view all the image and read all the text.
