New to the forum. Not to the smoker.

Hello all...

Most forums you find, you lurk around for a month or so, and then if you think the forum has some meaningful purpose and you finally feel inclined to say something, you eventually become a member.

NOT THIS FORUM. I joined the day after I found this jewel.

I'm 25 yrs. old. Live in Brevard County, FL. Married and have a 6 month old baby girl. Financial Advisor with NYSE Member Firm (Shameless plug in case anyone needs some help). I also have 3 Pure Bred Boxers.

Worked at Texas Roadhouse for 3 years in High School. Worked the grill for the last 2 years I worked there. And that... is where the passion... began. After assuredly consuming my weight in steak, chicken and ribs; any kind of cooking that involved meat, I was all for it.

Purchased an ECB for $1 at a garage sale about 3 years ago. It has held up well and smoked many a wonderful pieces of meat. Now I feel is the time to upgrade. For the time being I can use my neighbors, Char-Broil side firebox smoker. I'm thinking about buying a New Braunfels that is for sale locally. (Thought about offfering $60 for it. Is it worth it? It's in pretty good shape.) However, I would truly like to build my own reverse flow. I can get any size used propane tank for $35 and my neighbor has his own shop with welding and metal working tools. Once work commences, pictures, stats, and specs will be released.

Have found a lot of great info so far over the past 2 weeks. Thanks to all the intelligent posts, and to the others, thanks for making me feel smarter.

By the way, anyone who lives near the area, I know of someone clearing out some Orange Trees, about 5 lots worth, and offering the wood to anyone who wants to load up. I have all I need right now. Not to mention i split enough oak this past weekend to last me a year.

Welcome to SMF! This is an awesome site and like you, I also joined as soon as I found it and still LOVE THIS PLACE!! Tons of information to be had and it sounds as if your experience just add to the "expertise" of the forum.

Those there look like scuba tanks next to your smoker. Is there a lot of good diving out in AZ? I have an old Steel 72cf tank that I plan on using for the smoke stack when I do build mine.

I try to be resourceful when possible.

Big welcome from Tampa! Orange wood? Never heard that being a good smokin wood, but that doesn't mean it isn't. Got enough seasoned oak from the hurricanes gone by to last a smoke or 100.

All my respects go out to you for working in high school and stumbling on great smokes. I have a lazy 15 yr. old son that keeps demanding and demanding crap I don't understand( Won't work). Always carry the smoke. Family and friends will think your are a smoking god. Bring them good smokes and you rise to the top( inheritance gets bigger). Good luck.

Thanks for the respect! Working in High School had great advantages and also disadvantages. I worked about 30 hours per week while I was in high school. I always had money to do what I wanted, but at the same time my work prohibited me from taking part in many of the things people cherish as memories from their high school days. I was very athletic as a teenager but once I started working, high school sports weren't an option. I got a job 3 days after I turned 16 (in FL that was the earliest you could work a real job) and stayed with that same company for 3 straight years til I left for college.

It had it's pros and cons and I think I learned a lot from it. I'm glad I did it, and I also appreciated things a lot more because I was the one buying them.

Welcome to SMF. Sounds like you've got all the hook-ups you'll need when it comes to smoking. All you need is a pig farmer to move in across the street.

Im Dan And im from central Michigan
I use a Masterbuilt electric smokehouse.
just finished the mods for the door and the vent on top.
I have done a bit of smoking with salami and jerky etc.
But just getting into the bigger cuts of meat now
