New guy from Puyallup Wa. Need Advice.....

Found this great forum during a google search after watching one too many youtube vids.

Anyways, I have been using a SnP pro circa 1996 or so as a grill and a bbq smoker. One of the heavy ones that is fully welded. It was still horribly hard to control when using it as an offset smoker. It was like it didn't do either very well between smoking or grilling.

Last weekend I got this hair up my behind to take the firebox off the SnP and weld up the hole in the end and built a new vent. Now I have a nice fancy charcoal grill that seems to be far more efficient at grilling.

That is all great and fancy but my real question is,

I would like to build a fairly tiny reverse flow smoker out of the old firebox(firebox would now be the cook chamber).

Here are my plans, use the old firebox which is appox 17 gallons as the cook chamber and a 7 gallon firebox and set it up reverse flow.

Why so small you ask? I would like it to be as portable as can be by one person and be able to haul in my 5th wheel trailer for trips.

I would like to be able to use charcoal and or wood. May even setup a propane ignition to light off the fuel.

I am sure many of you have seen the tiny offset rig on youtube.

Is this a feasable idea or simply ridiculous?

I say if you can dream it, have the tools and the skills, build it! for me, the process and what you learn along the way is most of the fun! I think your idea is completely feasable; dont forget to document your project...I would love to see it!

Welcome to the forum. If you just need a small portable all-in-one you might consider picking up a used ECB (El Chepo Brinkman) vertical smoker. You can usually find one on Craigslist for about $30, and as many people on this forum will attest you can turn out some good Que on them. Best off all they would fit into a truck real easy for that camping trip.

Well that would work but I have the stuff and I work with my hands. I like challanges and I like to weld.

Sounds like a fun project. I just want to make sure I am not wasting my time in a design that is not wise because of it's size.
