Hello all!!  I'm a new member, but have been lingering around for a while reading many of the posts.   Any other Omaha people out there??

I have a Rival KC Smoker today, and have had a Lil Chief in the past.  Will upgrade someday when I am not satisfied with my Rival.  I have done allot of pressure cooker meats, some turkey fryer, and doing more smoking these days.

I made some ribs last weekend, but never did get smoke from the smoker.  They were tasty, but not smoky.  During clean-up, the chips were not burnt at all.  I suspect that the smoker has warped some through use, and that's why there was no smoke.  I'm looking for suggestions on how to get the smoke back in the Rival.

If you're not familiar with it, it's like a roaster pan with an additional element in the middle for creating the smoke.  There is a full size pan that sits inside the unit.  I suspect that the pan, and base are not making contact, so there is not enough heat transfer to create the smoke.  I have thought about trying to hammer (with a rubber mallet) the pan so it will make better contact with the base.  Another thought was to use either tin foil, or steel wool in the gap between the base, and pan to help with heat transfer.

Have any of you dealt with this, or tried to  get more smoke out of this smoker with any success??  Thanks.

Howdy,

I'm in Omaha also (by force not by choice, although i do like it here).  Just picked up a char grill smoker and have already done a pork butt and 2 briskets.

hope you get yours fixed soon.

Thanks all for the Howdy!

For an update on the smoker, I have smoke!!!

I checked out the pan, and it was a bit warped.  It took some coaxing to straighten it out.  I also used a rubber mallet to gently tap/massage the bottom reservoir down a bit.  I now have good metal to metal contact that is providing me with a good amount of smoke again.  It works well for a small electric unit.  I plan to use it next year when I am out at the camp grounds in my new to me Pop-up camper.
