Hi, my names josh, I'm 24 and live in the southern piedmont area of north carolina. I've been lurking here for quite a while now and since I have my first competition coming up in the spring I thought I would join up and get serious.

I have an Oklahoma Joe and a larger trailer mounted cooker. I call it a cooker b/c that's what it is. It's not a "smoker" but it has cooked many a butt and briskit without any complaints. I will hopefully be adding another small smoker to the arsenal sometime soon.

The event will be under the KCBS rules but will not be sanctioned. I will be competing for grand champion which will include pork, pork ribs, chicken and brisket. I love cooking and bbq'ing but haven't never competed and after some encouragement from friends and family I decided to try it.

So prepare to see me ask lots of questions and for the onslaught of pics that are sure to come from all the practice smokes I will be having in the coming months.

Thanks for such a great forum and the overwhelming wealth of knowledge!

to SMF!  We are so glad you joined us!

We love to see pictures of what you are cooking (or what we call q-views here at SMF).  To "upload the q-views" just follow the directions here and it will be easier. If you are using a cell phone, an IPad or a kindle, go to the main SMF page and click the Mobile button. Will make the uploads a bit faster too.

If you didn't read the "SMF User Guidelines" .....please do.  There are a few things that everyone should know about those pesky little rules before plunging into the forums and some guidelines of how to interact within the forums. Off site links are not allowed here at SMF per TulsaJeff. Not that you have done anything wrong....just a little bit of FYI for new members!

If you need any help roaming around the forums....just holler!  Happy to help out!
