For those of you who have been follwoing the saga of the orange flame on my Smoke Vault I just got the new burner delivered today.

Camp Chef definitely comes through sending another part at no charge, bonus points for getting it here before Memorial day.

The design of the burner is different so I am wondering if this is a known issue. The burner seems thinner metal, it's spray painted black so I can't tell but it looks cheaper. On the venturi tube instead of a rotating solid piece of brass to adjust airflow it's now a fixed mesh piece. Less likely to clog and if it dirty you will be able to get at it to clean it up.

Hopefully I'll be able to install it later today and test it. If it works it is off to the market for meat!

Good luck, Ron. Soo..the mesh is designed to limit air to just the right amount. I'd thing this would be an issue if you have a needle valve for temp control. I mean, not being able to fine tune the ait intake.

Good on them for getting it to ya!

Installed the new burner and the flame is now blue. i let the smoker get to 400 and still blue. the real test will be when it's laoded as that's when i usually have the problem. After i removed the old burner I inspected it closely. there appears to be 3 plugs of metal in the burner itself. I'm no expert but maybe their was air leaking from there.

Kewl beans Ron-and like u say nothing wrong with a back up smoker.good luck with it.

I do hope it works out for you, nothing frustrating like a smoker that just ain't right.

Looks good so far, Ron. I'm hoping for great smokes this weekend for ya too! Awesome props to the company for getting it to you before the first real smokin' weekend of the year!

Testing it out today, just through a turkey breast in. No brine today but i did inject it with some fruit punch and a basic salt and cbp seasoning.

I'll let you know. keeping my fingers crossed

You spoke to soon rich, the flame is back to orange. I give up! Every part has been replaced and I tried 3 different propane tanks.

Either some type of impurity in the gas itself or ????? I can't figure it out.

Changed the tank 3 times Rich. It's either the gas in the tanks, unlikely or its possessed. Fortunately the WSM should be here next week.

After all of that it's sux to hear it didn't work out for ya, Ron. At least you're erring on the side of safety rather than jumping in there and trying to get a smoke in this weekend.

Your new WSM will kick butt, and will be back to smoking meat, stress-free, in no time.

Ron...open the screen air intake up. Let it go wide open. What's to lose?

On Edit...rationale_ only thing that causes orange flames is too rich an air-fuel mixture.

Rich:

I can't open it, it's fixed unless I rip apart the screen mesh. It can;t be the gas in the tank as it works fine in my grill, flame is nice and blue.

I guess it's appropriate that this being Memorial Day weekend as I will probably be putting the CCSV to rest after this weekend.

Here are what may be the last goodies from it, just a turkey breast and some ABTs with some grilled veggies, corn on the cob and some salads.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

It was a tasty last meal from an old friend who went before her time

Ron, sorry that didn't fix your problem. There has to be something going on. Have you made any mods to the smoker? Anything that changes the way air flows to the venturi? Does the flame change color with the door cracked open? It's strange it only happens when you load up the smoker, but there has to be a reason why. Don't bury her yet - keep trying.

It changes when i open the door, the flame gets bluer, then goes back to orange.

No mods to it.

Joe if there was anything left to try i would.

I've changed the rgulator and the burner assembly which includes a brand new venturi valve.

I have tried 3 separate propane tanks which all work fine with my gas grill.

No idea what to do next.
