Meet Hank. He's just under 7 weeks old and will be coming home on the 12th. We are BEYOND excited.

And nothing worse for the first month year or so until routines get set.
Fixed it for you, John. lol
YMMV?

I've been thinking about your signature Charles

“Dogs are minor angels, and I don't mean that facetiously. They love unconditionally, forgive immediately, are the truest of friends, willing to do anything that makes us happy..." - Jonathan Carroll

I'm not so sure about the "forgive immediately" part.
I had a house mate years ago that had a sheltie.
That dog had a vindictive nature.
He got pissed at Pat one day and chewed the crap out of the TV remote. Pat was one of those TV watchers that always had the remote in his hand.
He got pissed at me one time and chewed the aglets off the laces of a pair of my shoes.
There were a few other ... tantrums ... but those are the 2 that stick out in my mind.
Really pissed me off as the TV (and remote) was mine.

I know it's not funny, but in a lot of ways, it is. When Lucy was younger, she's 5 now, she would do things like chew on my shoes, never Sheila's. I always attributed it to her feeling like I wasn't paying enough attention to her. She's grown out of that now, but she still likes to get the empty toilet paper rolls out of the trash can and chew them up, not sure what that's about. But there's no doubt she's my dog and we are connected/bonded in a way that's hard to explain...

If you have ever adopted an Australian Shepherd puppy, it takes 2 or 3 years before they mature and act right lol. They are a handful until then.

Just an update on the furball. I was (I thought) prepared to go through all the trials and tribulations of having a puppy again. The long nights, the beating my head against the wall trying to housebreak him, the endless biting, chewing, jumping...All the fun of puppy ownership.

What I WAS NOT prepared for was Hank.

I'm pretty sure there's something seriously off with him. He's the most cooperative, well mannered, friendly and mellow puppy I've ever known. He was, and this is no exaggeration, housebroken in THREE DAYS. He had a grand total of two nights where he cried and whimpered in his crate, but after that he would get up and whine once or twice, we'd take him outside and then he'd go right back to sleep. He now sleeps from about 11pm til 7 am.
He has taken to the leash like a champ, he's friendly and loves to see people out on our walks, hell, he even loves our mailman! Only ongoing issue has been biting, as puppies love to do, but we're about 75% there on that one. Oh, and he's the ripe old age of 10 1/2 weeks.

I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop, but I'm cautiously optimistic on this one.

My first chow pup was like that. I think she crapped in the house maybe twice after I brought her home at 6 weeks old. She was never crated at all. I lived alone at the time and had to go to work every day, so I left newspaper on the kitchen floor for her to pee on and she always did it there, until she got older and could hold it till I got home. Never had another one like her.
