It's been an interesting couple days here in South Central Pa. We rarely have ice storms here, but this week we had two in four days. Sunday's storm was followed with winds gusting up to 60mph overnight. I walked outside around 7 am Sunday to find a tree down over the driveway landlocking us in the house. 2 hours with the chainsaw in the freezing rain had the drive opened by 9.

Around 10:30 the power went out and stayed out. About 11:30 I started walking through the woods to the neighbors house to see if they knew anything and this happened. Fortunately, I managed to get / stay out of the way and it just missed the garage. The first tree fell one direction and I started running as I was down hill from the falling trees. When it hit the second tree they changed direction and I was surprised to see the tips hitting <30 feet from me when I came off the corner of the garage. All in all we have had 6 trees uproot and one crack off in 4 days. All this is on a 5 acre plot of land.

We left the house about 10 minutes later yesterday and although power came back at 4pm today, we're waiting for the rest of the ice to come off the trees before going back.

My mes is usually setting between the two doors when I'm smoking. It was in the garage, and is still safe as is the family and the buildings so far.

I am glad to hear you and yours is fine, the home and also the MES (save the smoker !!!)..... everything else can be cleaned up in time. With that, I have you and your family in our prayers.....

mossymo, thanks. My wife didn't find it funny when I put the smoker on the B list of items taht needed to be gathered if I went back to the house. We have a 4 month old daughter and we grabbed som random stuff and headed for my parents. Once we got to their house we chuckled a little about what I did and didn't grab.

We put together a B list for this morning when I went by before work. It seemed safe so I went in, but couldn't get the truck up the icey 80 yard driveway. Yesterday the power company was saying Tuesday at the earliest, but they finished quicker. That should help with the cold items and the pipes.

yes you all be safe up there-and lordy the smoker is of importance but family comes first- we thinking of all u

Thanks all, it's good to be able to chuckle about it now, but it was pretty scarry at the time. It looks like we are going to have a busy weekend of cleanup. I have a couple of people who have voulenteered to help Saturday which will be great.

Hello from a neighbor down the road in Lampeter, Pa...glad to hear all are safe and sound...was not bad at all down here..a bit of ice, but all melted by Sun. am..funny how different things were only a few miles away..I work with some people in E-town and Leb...pretty bad all around!! I'm a big fan of my mes. I find the controlls make it pretty easy to repeat good results. The unit being well insulated is nice for those winter smokes as well. I find I can get distracted by other chores esier in the nice weather and I realy enjoy a crisp quiet weekend with the smoker in the winter!

I know you are the closest person I've met on smf so far.
