I have a RecTeq not the one in this thread but the smaller Deck Boss. The first one they sent me was defective and burnt out the bottom on the first smoke (it was supposed to be running at 250). They sent me a new one, their customer service is top notch. The replacement is pretty good so far but sometimes it takes awhile to settle down temperature-wise, it usually runs way too hot in the first 20-30 mins, like 100 over the setting. I find the built in temp sensor is about 20 degrees off compared to other temp probes I test it against. But overall it is pretty good.

Well done Mike! Excellent choice, you won't regret it. Burn it in, then do a pork butt! ...and while you're at it throw on some babybacks. Ya got plenty of room!

Some pointers. Follow the directions on keeping the pellet system clean. Pellets do not like moisture.
Do not stock up on any one brand and type of pellets. Try as many as you can find of brands and blends.
Shiny looking, dark in color pellets are a good sign. Stay away from smoke tubes.

First smoke, I suggest a chuck roast.

What is wrong with just using one brand? I have only been using lumberjack and they have many flavor combinations and make a great pellet in my opinion. They arent sold in my area so I stock up when I travel.

I also use a pellet tube on every smoke. I dont think I will be following your advice on this.

Nice looking rig Mike. Like others mentioned above. That thing is HUGE.

Enjoy it, and I'm looking forward to seeing it in action.

So I'm guessing a big old fattie is out of the question.

Chris
Not out of the question at all... I'm gonna enjoy life..

I stock up on Lumber Jack pellets when they are on sale. I keep them in my garage in a Rubbermaid trash can with a lid they keep fine. I also often use a smoke tube for extra smoke flavor sometimes with no problems. I wonder why Randy1 said to stay away from them. I have the RT1250 and it's great.

Very nice!!!! Congrats and just plan on an extra pellet expenditures in the house hole budget cause it could easily replace your house ovens! I still LOVE my 1250….still using it 2-3 times a week….its dropped a bit as we have been grilling more this summer….but that will be short cycle
