My First Smoker, YES!

Well after looking around and reading everything I can find, I pulled the trigger. I went for the Char Griller Smokin Pro. To me it just seems like the classic style smoker.

I'm at work and it is killing me! Its in my car and I cant work on it. I've been planning and reading about all the mods and tips and tricks. I'm going to try a couple of the simple ones before I get crazy.

It seems the most commonly agreed upon are the stack vent, thermometer, and baffle. I also bought some sealant for some of the joints.

I'm sure I will have questions, so stand by.

congrats on the chargriller!! i'm on my second one and i have loved both of them,i have turned out a pile of q between both of them,and am thinking of getting yet another one this time maybe the outlaw to add on to my concession trailer.fire that bad boy up and take some pics.

I have a CGSP aswell, I LOVE IT!!!

Just a quick reminder though. Read the instructions closely on how to assemble and DON'T FORGET to SEASON the GRILL and the GRATES BEFORE you USE IT to cook ANYTHING!

raise the charcoal grate up in the SFB, preferably with a charcoal basket - also - when putting together - knock out the hole for the SFB before you assemble the smoker - for some reason - they dont refernce the SFB in the instructions for the large smoker and its a little harder to knock out once you have it all together - though not impossible!

Well, Husker - I do wish I would have read your post before building. You are right about no reference to the SFB installation process. That was one tip that was never mentioned or I read over it, probably the later.

It's all good though, I didn't break anything and it all went together pretty easily. All the parts actually fit where they were supposed to. That is a nice change.

Today is seasoning, maybe a grill later in the afternoon, and then tomorrow is first smoke. I wont be a 40 yr old "BBQ" virgin anymore!

I love my Char-Broil, it's new also but I've been around a bit,.. I did the mods you mentioned and a little more,... I added a vertical box,... The vertical smoker attached to my Char-Broil horizontal offset is an old Brinkmann my neighbor gave me as he was moving out,... I removed the legs, built supports on my Char-Broil horizontal offset , bolted it into place, cut vent holes for the smoke and fabricate a ducting system to deliver the smoke from my Char-Broil horizontal,... O-la,.. Now I can hang sausage, hams, chicken and the such,... How kool is this?,... It works beautifully,.. holds the temp at 165 for sausages forever,... The smoke cools down a bit traveling through the horizontal Char-Broil for the cooler temp while still hitting 200 in the main box,.. Good luck,.. This is the best group of folks on the net, never hold back from asking any questions,... I've gained soo very much help from everyone,.... Rick

Well, I will say that today was a learning experience. That is an understatement.

I have a lot to learn that is for sure. First off is patience, and then practice.

My wife wanted ribs so since I got the toy she got ribs. I also tried Dutches bean, wow!

So here is a picture of my first smoked ribs. I think they looked and tasted great.

Great looking smoker......But isn't that a Char-Griller brand horizontal smoker/grill with sfb? Just wondering I just got a Char-Griller gas grill.........But great idea with the smoker add on.............Looks good.........

I'm a photographer not a philosopher and my tongue gets a little twisted while gleaning information from all you great folks here at SMF,... You are all very knowledgeable people who are willing to share your information and give the greatest support of any forums I have visited,... very positive group here,...
