I decided I wanted to build a custom smoker that would last a lifetime. After a lot of researching I decided on a RF. I came across the RF that WoodyG built and loved the design. I have been working on it for about 2 weeks during my free time. WoodyG has been very helpful and answered questions I had about his build. Mine will be mounted to a trailer and have 3 racks and too hooks for smoking sausage. I don't have nearly the skills that WoodyG has but I hope to have a great smoker when I'm done.

Yep... Woody got it right... Fire control and draft control... And his build is a model for a really great smoker.....

Update.... I got the CC door cut and hinges welded. Don't smack talk my welds too much I have only welded maybe a dozeb times in my life. Hope to get the firebox built by brother in law in a week or so and get closer to mounting it on the trailer. I smoked two pork shoulders on my free smoker I currently use. Can't wait to try out the new one and get better at smoking.

Installed the trim around the door today. 1" wide and 1/4" thick. Little overkill but it was cheap and easy to get. Having wrist surgery Monday so might be a little while before I can do more work on it.

Blind Tack welding the seal on the inside of the door, prevents door warping that opens up the door on the lower seal... Very good choice.....

Finally got back to my smoker after my wrist fusion surgery. Got the FB attached to the CC and started mounting everything to my trailer. Also put a 3500 lb axle under trailer. Last picture is the door of the FB which is designed off of woodyg's smoker. The FB is made of SS and I had my brother in law build it for me since he has a shop and experience with that type of welding. Special thank you out to woodyg for all the input and advice.

Got some more work done over the past few days. Smoke stack installed, reverse flow plate and racks installed. Also put in a drain for drippings.

Another productive weekend. Made a "custom" door prop with scrap material and added a shelf under the CC. Also finished up the cooking shelves. Added expanded metal, it turned out really nice and will easily handle the weight of what I'm cooking.

Nice work.... I really like the RF plate drain... I haven't seen one like that... Is it an original design???
Door seals look awesome... I'm thinkin' it will be airtight.... That's a good thing... easy to control the temp etc...

The RF plate design is based off of woodyg's design. I wanted to have mime drain on the backside since it's mounted on a trailer. This way it won't interfere with anything I mount towards front of the trailer.

Sorry my memory is failing a bit.... At least I can remember I'm good looking and rich... HAHAHA !!! Ahywho, you've done some beautiful work .. If that were my smoker, I'd be darn proud of it.... I used a few pictures of your smoker to help any folks that need help building their new smokers... That way, we will remember for a good long time, you done good, and your smoker will show folks, like many members builds have in the past, what great smokers our members build...
Damn, I hope that came out right... That was meant to be an endearing compliment of your build... If it didn't, I confess... I must have opened the wrong bottle and put EVENING sugar in my MORNING coffee....
... Dave
