our friend,child, & companion of 14 years.
she followed us home & stayed faithfully for 14 yrs(vet said she was about 16).
a faithful squirrel harasser, ball chaser, lover of cat estrangement...
she developed kidney failure, liver failure, disorientation,a stroke, & just general old age all @ once in 2 days.
our other(mom's dog) Banner, a tux cocker 16 yrs old & born on the 4th of july-hence the name banner..(was 3 wks older than my oldest daughter) had a softball sized throat tumor... had to put both down- banner last year(2 wks after her b-day), and daisy yesterday. don't feel sorry or offer condolences...just hug your "child" & cherish the days you have w/ them. thanx all.here's daisy's pic.

You did the right thing, gypsy. As hard as it is emotionally on us, it's a better way to go for our four footed kids when they are in pain. Just wait, one day some pup will look at you with those big brown eyes and say "Take me home"!

This is from the dad of the Beagle bunch-Roxy, George and Kobie.

if i was ever in the same position.... do the same to me. now we do have our other "test taster" and he's still a pup @ 2yrs.- he's a schnoodle(schnauser/poodle mix)- this is augie dawgsbourne....the aarfff icial test taster.

i always make sure to remind my pupples how much i care for them ... and let them know how they make me feel ... even the step-pupples know it (my moms dogs) ... i always dread the day that one of them has to leave ... but it always comes ... just make sure to take plenty of photo's while they are around .. and remember the good times!...

man,
thats a tough deal.. best thing for the dog though.. its better to end the dogs pain then to prolong your happiness....

i dread the day my pal has to go......

That's a lot of bonding in those years. You'll always have something to remember, that will just crack you up and put a smile on your face.

Im sorry for your loss gypsy. Sounds like they lived long fulfilled lives. It is like losing a family member. Oh, by the way, great name...augie dawgsbourne....the aarfff icial test taster...lol
Thats a good one.
Heres one of my pooch loving on my daughter.

I know what you are going thru. Part of the reason I was off the airwaves waas a child of mine was having some serious problems , I thought was going to lose her. She is doing OK now, and I can breath a little easier. There is nothing I can say to make your loss any easier. They fill such special places in our hearts. I know at times my pups are the only ones to make me feel better. Stay strong and one day another pup will pick you out and share their live with you. I am not saying they will replace you beloved's, but they will fill a special spot.

No better friend than a good ole dog. They're alwats there when you need em and patiently wait until you have the time to give them affection. I haven't had a dog for about 5 years now - haven't had the heart to get another one after losing my Petiou and Bandit Buddy Shelties.

to be honest.. i got a basset puppy when i was about 14 months old - that was crissy- we had her until i was almost 18.... on any other forum we couldn't share this.....here we can. now in the last week or so this place has gotten "different"- if it's just about bbq-we'd all be gone after about 3 posts..... lets keep it family.....that was my whole point in sharing my loss- like monty's loss, and hawg's new grandbaby, & low's daughter w/ some difficulties.... no matter what it is ... we're the biggest & best for a reason.- when i met bud & tonto & they knew my face & knew my name & welcomed us into their home away from... lets just get back to what we are.. the best on the net... now that makes me sentimental...p.s. debi- my wife wants to talk to you on a day off or @ summersville & ask about herbals & stone polishings(we know what we talk about).

Very sorry for your loss... Hang in there Gypsy, it is a hard thing to do for sure, but it had to be done.

Sorry I didn't get back to ya' last night... we got home late and there was a little too much "adult beverage" involved!

I'll ring ya' later 2day...

Gypsy, my condolences to you. I know how you feel and I truely feel your loss. I had to put down Dana (15 1/2 yr golden) 2 yrs ago and it made me a total wreck. First dog I ever had.

Someone put this on the forum when bud and tonto's Wylie passed away.

RAINBOW BRIDGE

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carryi ng him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
