I was looking at a thread and I hit the back button and AOL locked up and said not responding, not unusal. I waited for a few and got the blue screen never seen before. I chose to do the tests it recomended and after 30 minutes decided to abort and hereI am. Anybody else have windows 7? I have have many problems since I have gotten this puter in Nov. Seems to be fine now.

Windows 7 wont have any of the issues Vista had... lol love that commercial ...

W7 is still new and software and hardware companies are still trying to catch up. Im a gamer so I hear alot about the problems with it.

Since ur okay now id just wait it out but if you get the blue screen again try to get a decent photo of it.. sometimes u can pin it down to a piece of hardware. If you want catch me on MSN messenger if you have it my sn is [email protected] just make sure you put a note who you are I do have an idea that might help but I need to know what your system is.

I don't have any problems with windows 7, but my son-in-law works on computers for a living so I get all the updates and repairs on request. I still have a computer with XP and it still works great but we are going to put a new hard drive in it and install W7. You might check to see if you are current on updated.

Your problem is obvious...

I am running W7 Ultimate and actually have found that it's very stable. Vista absolutely sucked, and actually ended up in catastrophic failure. It just would not boot, thanks to Microsoft sending some update over. Luckily, I'm anal about backing up my data, music, photos, etc. so I didn't lose anything. Still a p.i.t.a. though to reload all that stuff. I would recommend W7, but would then HIGHLY recommend changing the setting that allows automatic updates. I let microsoft push them over to my computer, but then i choose which ones get installed, if any. If not for some of the software I run, I would be running OpenSUSE

Had it at one point but it was giving me so many problems during installation I gave up on it.
Just another "great quality" (feel the sarcasm) product to come out of Micro$oft!

That's why it's best to stick with The Borg, allow them to assimilate your system because resistance is futile!

Now I really like your set up there Jim.

LOL... I want to be assmilited by the borg!

I just recently upgraded to Win7 and it has been the easiest, smoothest install. I have had no issues with any programs, drivers, or hardware.

Ron - if you can get a repeat of the blue screen please wright down the displayed problem and pos it when you get a chance. Usually a blue screen issue will trace back to a driver or corrupted system file. And I will say I absolutely HATE, DISPISE, LOATH..... AOL.

AOL is super invasive and very, very hard to remove from a computer. Any machines I have had myself or from updating family, I had to completely reformat and reload the machine to get rid of AOL. AOL actually shows up as a virus on some of the virus scan software... lol.

I do get the updates when available and only install the critical ones. During the tests it was checking the drives, memory etc. After 30 minutes it only showed 5% progress and that is when I shut it down.

As far as AOL I have used it since the 90's with few problems.

Seems ok now till next time.

If there is a next time I will take a pic and post it.

Thanks.

You would figure after all these years and BG's billions of dollars, they would have the infamous blue scream gone by now. And they charge hundreds of dollars for the os. LOL. That's why I'm here with my home networked with Ubuntu Linux.

and it's free along with around 30k software packages.

If you can Ron, write down what's on your "blue screen" and let us see it. Another thing is you may want to check AOL for any upgrade that's relative to Windoze 7

Thanks but they don't list windows 7.

Well this is the third time I had trouble and the third time MY Web Search was found on my computer and removed.

This time I deleted windows live, I have never used it. We shall see.

Ron, Google riched20.dll "windows 7" and use the quotes as I did. There is a lot of info there you may run into something that relates with what you may have been doin at the times of your crash.

I would suggest you try another browser I am in love with Google Chrome right now, AOL has some issues with the new stuff, remember lots of issues when Vista came out as well.

I still have an AOL e-mail from the way-back days but don't use the browser part anymore too slow and lots of lock ups. Also would like to know what task manager looks like when you get these lock ups. Running out of memory can cause blue screen issues.

Windows 7 is being plagued by the black screen of death now. They have replaced blue screen issues with the new and improved black screen. If you are having blue screen issues you are getting the best of both worlds from Mickeysoft.

If you are feeling adventurous try Ubuntu Linix. The current version is 9.10. You can try it from the install CD without changing your Windows install. It basically runs twice as fast as any Windoze version. Comes with 90% of the software you need pre-installed (including a Office Suite compatible with all MS Office versions). And to be really slick, you can install it on a flash drive and carry it in your pocket. When you need something just plug it into a PC that will boot from a USB device and you have your operating system, applications, favorites and data all in one place. Oh ya, Linux is also immune to Virus attacks and 99.9% of the other nasty things out there. And it's 100% FREE.

Jon.

Thanks Jon. I am still trying to get rid of My Web Search crap. I read a lot on it and it still comes up.
