So some of my friend and I decided to have a cookoff last weekend.  I decided to do brisket, a turkey, and my first time making Dutch's Wicked Baked Beans.  Long story short, everything turned out just awesome and I won the competition!!  It was my second brisket, and this one turned out excellent.  Before I put it in the cooler to rest we had to cut and try a few pieces.  Everyone else there cooking conceded the contest to me right there since they thought it was some of the best beef they had ever had.  Many thought it was better than any prime rib they had eaten before.  The turkey turned out awesome also, brining is the way to go.  I could not believe how much I loved the baked beans.  There were some people there at the party that thought they didnt even need to eat meat since all they wanted were the beans.  All of this was done on my new Traeger grill.  I decided to save a little money and get the smaller 070 one which I will regret of course later.  I told the wife that once I start getting catering jobs I would just have to buy another one :)  Here are a couple of pics.  Sorry I did not get any of the finished food, things got fast an furious at the end and I kinda forgot.  My wife just got a new camera so the qview pics should be much better very soon.  I will be cooking 3 boston butts and a couple of chucks this Friday for my sons birthday and for a fall sports opener ceremony, so I will get some pics for you.

Nice grill and good looking brisky and turkey.  I agree that Dutch's beans are necessary with all smokes.[IMG]

Now you have made one fine looking brisket. Now the turkey looks alittle under done but that's just looking at the color it looks alittle pale to me. But I'm always glad to see a fellow smoker take hme the prize too. Great Job [IMG]

Congrat on your first win - with that smoker you are bound to win a lot more based on what I see of your prep and set up

Nice!  I'm really starting to eyeball those Traegers.  How long does your smoke go on one load of pellets?

It really depends on how high you have it set.  When I set it to smoke when I started it at midnight, it ran a little hotter than what I was expecting by reading the literature on it.  It ran between 210-220 when my friends runs closer to 180.  I ran it like this for 7 hours and it used maybe 4lbs of pellets.  I can not really be exact on that, but I had about 15lbs in the hopper and it used about 1/4 of it.  Now when I first set it in, I ran it on high for 45 minutes, and then cooked a pizza on it on high for another 30 minutes and I would say that it probably used at least 5lbs there, so a really big difference.

The turkey pic was after 2 hours of cooking and it took 6.5 to get it to 170.

Looking at my pics I cant wait to start using the new camera.
