made some homemade sauerkraut and decided I wanted to have a brat with it. Never made one so I bought a Johnsonville. I ended up throwing it out as it tasted like a chemical contraption. It was awful. Did I get a bad batch or am I just use to homemade now that I’m making my own?

Johnsonville has a lot of variety. Which one did you not like? I've tried most and prefer the original. I've tried their Beer, Hatch Chile, various Italian etc. I've never noticed a chemical flavor in any of them. FWIW I seldom ever buy brats or sausage with cheese from any maker . Also, original is about all buy anymore.

I bought originals. Might have been the chef’s fault but here’s a closer look at the ingredients. Why add corn syrup for example?

Frustrating to be geared up and then donate to dumpster.Do you have a Braum's nearby? Excellent bratwurst if you do. Specially with home made kraut. Really frustrating

I do. Never had their sausage though but we do love their hamburgers!
 
Johnsonville products constantly have little pieces of bone in them.
Used to like their products, but no longer.
 
Never been a fan personally! We either make our own or get them from our local butcher that makes them in house!
 
We have a local place Mckenzie's that sells to our local grocers in our region. I really like their Switch brat. It's made with Switchback beer another local brewery.

Personally never had a problem w/Johnsonviile, I’m sure Ive ate 100s over the years… certainly not a chemical tasting issue. Shit happens, was at an Oktoberfest yesterday and had an under cooked brat - not pleasant.
 
Bought some a few weeks ago and vac packed them, will pay close attention when I fix them, never any problems with any of their products.
 
I've never had any chemical flavor and I usually dont buy any funky combos, original and firecracker for me...firecracker is the preference. I'm not that particular and haven't made my own. I'll buy whatever is half price! Used to get them at Sam's club and they were good, but in true Sam's fashion, they just up and stopped selling them here.

I like to grill 3-4lbs at a time and vac seal portions for me and the wife. Thaw, pop in the microwave for a little bit and ready to eat!
 
No issues with Jville either. I think it's a good balance of quality and cost. It's certainly not an artisanal sausage. Not into them straight up due to the WI flavor profile but they rock the Sheboygan WI beer butter poach/grill style. Anyone on the fence on making your own, AC Leggs brat mix is fantastic.
 
Can't say that I've had any issues with J'ville brats. For prepackaged brats I can't complain.

Me either , and that's what many people think of when they hear " Brat "
I still buy them when on sale , or if grilling for larger groups .

They grill up nice , because they are a bit over 25% fat .

I'll buy Johnsonville if it's the only game in town. Better than Kroger's.
But there is a butcher about 20 minutes away that sells 38 different types of sausages, on a rotating basis. If it's not in the fresh case, they usually have some frozen in the back.
Double DD Meats in Mountlake Terrace, WA.
They also carry over 3,000 hot sauces. :emoji_grin:

This time of year, I precook a lot of sausage. Thaw, wrap in foil and on the hot spot on the tractor engine (EGR cooler for the inquiring farmers) to reheat for a hot meal in the field.
I'll buy Johnsonville if it's the only game in town. Better than Kroger's.

25 years ago had a craft butcher shop in Auburn that had a great selection.
Hot sauce was not the "hot topic" back them. Sriracha was the main game in town
