I am new to smoking. Actually, I have never smoked, but I really want to start. I am ready to buy, but like most new people, I am suffering paralysis by analysis, and I would really appreciate a kick start.

I really like the Yoder YS480 with the competition cart, and I would buy it immediately if I could go to a store and pick it up. The problem is that I am impatient. I guess that I want to get opinions on if this smoker is worth the wait, or if an inexperienced smoker like me would be just as happy with a less expensive Traeger from Costco that can be cooking meat in just a few days, instead of 2 months?

Thank you for your input.

2 months to get a Yoder, something doesn't sound right about that.  While it has been 4 years since I bought mine, then I called the company on Monday Morning and on Friday it was delivered, Saturday I was using it.  However to answer your question, YES the Yoder is worth the wait.  A far superior product when compared to the treager chinese crap.  Just my .02

Give a shout to Craig Bell at: [email protected]. He will work with you for any options or needs that you have. He is great to work with. Top grade material, great fabrication, good heat retention and excellent air flow. I really love mine. Craig is in Tulsa, OK.

I agree that 2 months is a long time to wait, but apparently if you want the competition cart, that is what you have to do. Wait. If not for the cart, the smoker would ship in 3-5 days, but if I am going to get a Yoder, I am getting exactly what I want.

Thank you for the advice.

Thank you Joe. I will check him out and see if his shipping time is any less.

Ok, understand now, kinda.  If I were going to wait that long, I think I would go for the Big Boy then.  YS 640 with the rest of the bells and whistles.  Don't think you would be sorry at all.

I have been in contact with Mike at Yoder.com sales.  He says that I can get the YS480 with either a yellow, or purple comp cart in 2 weeks. That is pretty good, even though those are not my first choice in colors.  I think that the short wait is worth it.  The wife will like the purple better anyway.

Looks like I will be smoking sooner than I thought.
