In need of advice...

Discussion in 'Charcoal Smokers' started by qingonsi, May 7, 2009.

  1. As I mentioned in my roll call post I'm looking into constructing a smoker out of cinderblocks that I currently have. I would really like for it to work for charcoal, but after reading some posts I think the plans I have may be to big, and I would have to switch to wood (which might be a challenge just to get my hands on in my area).

I'm looking to mimic the way an upright barrel or bullet type smoker works. What is the maximum volume a charcoal smoker should be to be efficient? I was looking at the interior dimensions of 32"x32"40" or 48" (l/w/h) would this be too big? Could I bump it up to 32"x48"x48" and be ok? This is strictly going to be for big parties only, so I want to make it big enough to cook a suffucient amount of food, but I'd like to avoid having to keep 100+ lbs of charcoal around if I can.

Thanks in advance for the advice!
