SIKESTON, Mo. -- Nine months after an ice storm left much of southeast Missouri powerless for days, at least one hospital is starting to see how some couples passed the time without electricity.
The Sikeston Standard Democrat reports that hospitals in the region are preparing for a surge in births over the next few weeks.
The Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston says it is already 8-10 births ahead of normal for October with 40 through late last week.
Nicole Sisk gave birth to her first child on Thursday. She told the newspaper with a laugh, "You had to find something to do with no power."
