Since i purchase a toy smoker as i call it and have been reading a zillion posts and recipes, i came to the ((ITHINK)) conclusion that temperature monitoring and temperature controll it the most important thing of the most important things.
I searched and searched for what i consider a proper temp. device.
I already had a lond stem round dial thermometer that will work well in the temp ranges but i realized that i would be able to produce better results if i could monitor the internal temp of the meat as well.

I saw talking devices, dual probe devices, single probe with dual monitoring capability and who knpws what.
All i want to do is read the internal temp. of the meat without opening the smoker.

I found a digital thing at wal mart for 14.50. It has a very long sensor cord that is braided stainless and a stainless sensor probe. It reads both degrees F & C and only temperature

Its called accurate digital meat thermometer. the brand iskitchen essentials.

i wont be back home for 2 weeks but i cant wait to try it

That sure is a different looking smoker you have there. You are correct the temperature is very important, internal as well as smoke chamber temp. The thermo you described will work fine, just test it in boiling water first, It should read somewhere around 212° at sea level.

I have several thermos I use, I think I have 2 of the one you described. My favorite is the maverick et-73 (check out link below)it is a remote with dual probes.

Good luck with that little smoker you got there, let us know how it works for you.

Ok Scotty your on the right track, internal temp.is whats counts. yes you can use that thermometer will work. I would just run it thru one of the vents. But I would definetly test it first as Deer Meat said.It only takes a mi ute and it could make a wolrd of difference in the out come of your smoke. Well have fun, that's what's it's all about.

Hey Scotty, welcome, here is something you should see, it is on Blackhawk19 site.
Do not fear the enemy, for your enemy can only take your life. It is far better that you fear the media, for they will steal your HONOR.

Thanks for the test tip guys.

Terry,

Hey Blackhawk, this ain't gonna be another OTBS incident is it? Dang, I just as well go crawl in a hole now! haha, Terry

That is a great site and it brought a tear to my eye. Reminds me of the way our forces are being treated in iraq now.
I hate politicians of any party and i dont hate too many things.
The media is right up there on the list. I read about a dozen newspaper on the web ever day. Four are from iraq. Our papers only print the terrible things that happen and all the positive things almost never reach the print. They are vultures along with all poloticians.

I dont need a smoker. All I have to do is think of the news media and greedy self serving elected officials.

SORRY I CANT HELP MYSELF SOMETIMES

I intend to run it through the vent. I will not open the smoker((or whatever it is))unless the instructions for doing a particular result require it.

I just wanted to again thank folks for the tips.
I did the boiling water test this morning and it was righ on.
I also did the ice water test and i came within one degree so i am satisfied.

My original idea was to get an upright smoker wit 4 shelves but for now ill get my feet smoket with this table top model.
I have been lustig over briskets at wal mart for a few days. One of the things that needs to be learned is to pick a proper brisket.

ITS FUN ALREADY :)
