I didn't mean to yell but I just found out that they bulldozed my restaurant about 5 years ago.

It's like trying to find an old girl friend, you may not be happy what you find.

For some dumb reason I was trying to search for the restaurant and maybe their menu and kept coming up short. So I called the chamber the other day and was told they got tired of the business and bulldozed it.

A little background: I had it from 77' to 85'. I think in 82 - 83 we did a remodel. We had a 40 stool bar overlooking the lake, and seating for 100. We installed a Four Seasons sunroom with a raised floor so that everyone had a view of the lake and also a garden theme, it was beautiful, in fact one of my competitors said it was the show place of the northwoods. There were 465' of lake frontage there, worth a fortune. It was all windows facing the lake. We would get reservations for a window view everyday.

Then it happened, we had a fire, inflation was out of control, and no one would lend to repair it, and we were buried in debt. Since it wasn't a total loss the insurance didn't pay enough to repair it.

A good customer bought it for nothing and rebuilt and opened it and that is the last I knew of it as I moved from the area.

The other day I contacted a realtor there and we had a nice chat. I told him I owned it at one time and he said it was his favorite place as he and his wife would come by boat and enjoy the sunset. He offered to go out today and take some pictures and here they are. He also said it was not for sale at this time.

Over head shot of the city.

This looks like my view.

Same here.

We had sunsets like this all the time.

Another one.
Those were from google.

These were shot today. Parking lot?

Sad.

Trail down to the lake.

A little further down.

Getting closer.

Cabin is still there, had many friends and relatives stay there.

Almost there.

I could almost smell it, ahh memories.

The old deck is still there.

No idea, don't recognize the fence, must be the parking lot.

I would venture to say the land is now worth over a1/2 to one million dollars, but maybe I am wrong. Why anybody would bulldoze the building is beyond me.

Take care my friends and thanks for watching, I am still in shock.

Sorry to hear it Ron, it's a real shame...

Bummer. Looks like it was a beautiful place...

A house I used to live in became a parking lot. It is definitely a shock when you pass by, and it's gone.

Definetly a real bummer. Sorry man for the loss.

Ron - I guess I'd rather have the chamber bethe bearer of bad news than me. As I told you, I was planning a trip up there, since my inlaws have the lake house, 30 miles from your old place. I was going to take pics and all, but hey here they are. Sorry man - wish I would've seen how it was back in the day. Have any older pics?

One house I used to live in is now a Walgreen's - and the fields we played in are yet another @#$^%#@ development.

Sorry for the bummer Ron.

I do have pics here, just don't know where. Wife packs **** up and forgets where it went.

Ron, sorry for the bad news, at leave you've got some pics and a enjoyable memory to go by.

As someone who loves reminiscing on the past, I had to chime in and offer my condolences on the loss of what was probably a great spot for a great deal of memories for a lot of folks. That spot looks pristine for a good time, I bet you have some great stories and pics to share of times gone by of it. Dig em out and post em if you can. Don't let it fall to the wayside, we are our own historians in this digital age.

Sorry about your loss, Ron, I fully understand. I was born and raised in the family store, but Dad didn't want us boys to take it over - he said, "I put my name on it, it'll die with me.." Mom ran it for 8 yrs after he died then sold it to an outsider, didn't want to sell it to us; I tried to buy it, had the financing and everything and she refused to sell it to me; said "... she never wanted to straddle us with the business..". So, it went to another, who, after running it for 3 years, bulldozed it down, bought several adjoining properties and built a 'regular' supermarket-type block building which now stands as the local grocery. What a shame, this is what it used to look like:

Sign on the right side (street side) of the building:

And, my dad behind the meat counter, obviously aggravated with my picture-taking, lol!

It was a historic building too. But, that's progress I guess!
