How to light charcoal without a chimney?

Some folks use a torch to light the coals. I use BGE starter squares. whatever you do, don't use lighter fluid.

Quicker and easier... I stick my torch up through my stand and light it that way...

Can i just light a paper towel soaked in canola oil and put it on top of the filled charcoal basket

Paper towel will work under the chimney not in the basket

I fill the basket.
Put the cube just under a couple of briqs or lump at the edge of the basket

If there is plenty of room under the basket to put the paper towel.. I would try it.. what's worst can happen.. not light ??

I use weber cubes. Put it in the basket and light it.

Ditto on the Weber Starter cubes. Just use some today making burgers on the GWK! They work great. Don't leave a fuel taste. b

So let me get this straight. I fill up the charcoal basket almost full. Put down the weber cubes and light them. The put some more charcoal on top. Wait until it lights and set it to temp. Once hits temp put wood on top.

This is my way. Takes seconds to get a furnace going. You need a variable speed controller for the blower.

I have a chimney

I have lighter fluid

I have homemade parafin match fire starter

I am sure there is more if I think on it.
