I have a a gas grill and I am having trouble keeping the smoke going it tends to die out after a while. Where do I put the box. The manufacture said to put it on the greats.I have tried it there an on the vaporator bar, any help would br appreciated

You might try putting one piece of lit charcoal in with your wood in the box.......the charcoal will keep the wood smoking for quite a while and then you can put the box anywhere you want. Let the box provide the smoke, but the gas provide the heat.

it's hard to get good smoky flavor in a gas grill,it can be done but their not designed to be as air tight as a charcoal grill, for safety reasons i'm sure, and each one is different so you'll have to experiment to get your best results......oh by the way don't forget fathers day is right around the corner.......maybe time for a charcoal smoker.....might wanna drop that little hint around the ol homestead...

mike gas grills really are not design to work as smokers but you can pu a ecb from walmart for near to nothing $25 to $30 and its a great learning and cheap way to get into the smoking experinces....and if u r a dad fathers day around the corner

Not sure about your gasser , but mine has 4 burners side by side . I just used the cast iron smoker box , some chunks of apple wood , and set it over burner on the far end and just used that burner for heat to keep it just above 200F
You can see it on the left in the pic here :

Burned the wood pretty quick , but refill about 1/2 hour after the smoke stops helped keep the smoke thin and blue , not overpowering ,white and billowey :

i've experimented with putting it on the grate on one end and cooking over indirect heat it works alright, but can take a little while to smoke. i did that on my long smokes like ribs. if it was a short smoke for chicken, pork chops, etc. i actually pulled the grate off and put my box (which btw is stainless, wouldn't advise doing it w/ cast iron as it's heavier) directly over the flame. but like everyone said, it's hard to get a good smokey flavor on a grill....that's why i eventually invested in a gas smoker.
