HELP BUYING MES 40!

Trying to buy a MES 40. Bass Pro apparently has this years version for $ 429 and Sam's apparently has last years for $ 299.  Problem is Bass Pro has them in stock and the two Sam's stores I called said website ordereing only. Is that correct? Thought I saw where guys were buying them in the stores.  Talked with Masterbuilt and they said both are similar only differecne is drip pan is in the rear on last years model and I noticed the vent is on the side instead of top on the new model.   Any reason not to buy the $ 299 version? (Other than waiing for it?)

I walked into my local Sams club and picked my MES up. They had several stocked when I got mine.

A lot of people love the older model after doing a few mods to it but it supposedly still smokes fine as is. The mods are really just improvments some of which is thought to have been incorporated into the new model. I know I can pick up the old model at my local sams club. Iv thought of waiting to get the new model but i cant really justify $450 on a new toy this year.

IMO There are not enough improvements to warrant an extra $130. That buys a lot of meat or a nice Sausage stuffer...JJ

I agree with Jimmy, there's just not enough going on in the new model to justify the $130 extra.

I'm still waiting for a full review, with a test of smoke production and temps

The Old MES 40 has varying temps on each rack, and a terrible "Hot Spot" in the right rear corner

Knowing this, can be helpful when placing meat in your smoker

Eventually, the old stock has to sell out, and the new models will become available at $299....I Hope!

Thanks for all the advice.  Decided to order the old model from Sam's and save the $ 130.

Iv been waiting to hear reviews on the new one as well since most of the issues have already been adressed here with mods I cant justify an extra $130.
