We were looking forward to having friends over for one of those too infrequent dinner parties.
Then the better half tested positive for covid. Fortunately symptoms are relatively mild.

Canceled dinner party. Funny how it can almost seems like 2020 again.
But we have hanger steak (one of my favorites) and we gotta eat.
Dropped plans for grilled shrimp, jalapeño poppers, French bread. Cut down on amount of vegetables.
Still seemed liked a feast, just for the two of us. And isolated at that.

Hanger steak from homegrown Dexter: removed fat/membrane, cut lengthwise and removed sinew.
One half of hanger steak marinated with chile-based rub (see here), other half only salt/pepper.
Lightly seared Romaine lettuce, served as salad with squeeze of lemon and parmesan cheese.
Smashed potatoes (gold and purple) with olive tapenade (Mallmann's recipe).
Zucchini and "fairy" eggplant. A red jalapeño just because I got them.
All cooked over open fire pit with red oak.

And a bourbon barrel beer. Guess I'll have to drink it all myself.

Looks great as always . A meal at your place might be worth a dose of covid .

I've always wanted to do the romain like that . Do you soak it in water first , or split , char then off the grill ?

Split so it's still attached at stem, brush with olive oil, salt and pepper, cut side down to lightly sear, then maybe turn over, let cool, squeeze lemon over it and grate parmesan cheese (or use Caesar dressing). Cook hot and fast (maybe 1 minute) and it'll stay crunchy.

Thanks for looking.
fine looking eats,. be careful out there.

Good looking meal right there. Nicely done Steve. Sorry to hear about your wife. My SIL family seems to be susceptible to Covid. I think they've had it like 4 or 5 times now.

Point for sure
Chris

Nicely done! Hopely the good food will help getting your wife feeling better soon!
