hey Y'all,
I'll try and be succinct and not wordy. I'm growing weary of the BBQ "food gloves" I've been using. I've had a pair of these: (below) for a couple of years. fitment is not the best and the liners pull out sometimes when removing them making it virtually impossible to "rethread" the fingers back in the sockets. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09T5XWHFZ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I also have a couple pairs of leather welding gloves that are great for moving hot coals and grates. Not crazy about picking up a butt or slab with them.
So I've been googling, getting the standard results with the black gloves with orange silicon flames and similar.
This might be something I have to get at "the store." my impatience and tolerance for ninnies only allows me to go to big box stores on Saturday morning between 6-6:30 AM, before "they" get there.

If you are using something you like and could direct me, I'd appreciate it. Again, these will only be used for picking up hot food products like butts, slabs, and similar.

Have a great weekend. I got a tri-tip itching to go on.

I hear you on that John.
I use a big Orange pair of silicone ones that are not really comfortable. So I also use a big spatula to help move foods around with one of the said gloves.
One of these days I am not going to be able to catch the food before it hits the dirt, lol

So I am watching to see what others say here for you.

Like the cotton and latex glove mix but still find some meats too hot, and I can handle the heat from cooking , just some hot slippery foods are too much.

hello David,
The gloves I have linked above might be pretty good for guys with normal dexterity in their hands. Since my stroke, my left hand doesn't follow directions very well and sometimes getting fingers lined up with holes was a challenge. Once I get them on they provide adequate heat protection and are water resistant. I have no problem grabbing a Boston butt and getting it on a board to wrap. Only thing is when you get them coated in "meat grease" they are slicker than owl poop on a barn floor. Taking them off you just make sure the cotton lining doesn't come out because its a task getting the fingers rethreaded. not bad for $20 for a "normal" guy. Thy clean well with a little warm water and Dawn.

I don't use gloves at all except when lowering the charcoal basket into the bronco and use a cheap pair of welding gloves from HF, but if I've had a few beers sometimes I don't. I use tongs for ribs and such, butts I just grab and toss in a pan to take inside.

Now you and I are soul mates when it comes to what you call ninnies, and I won't use my words here, but I used to do my weekly sprawl mart run on Saturdays around 0430 or so and it was me and the employees and the occasional weirdo from the "no tell motel" on Battlefield Blvd.

I use Showa Atlas 660 pvc gloves for hot food. Work great and last a long time. I just spray with dish soap after and “wash my hands” to clean em. Same gloves you see the guys wear on “Deadliest Catch”. For food, not hot metal. Search around, should be about $10/pair.

If I am handling food directly I have a pair of big ugly bright orange silicone gloves. I use them when I can't use tongs or a spatula. Like what you posted without the inserts. They might be better to reach your hand into with your condition. Something like this.

When I am loading wood into my offset and opening/closing the hot door or adjusting the damper I use a thick pair of mechanic gloves. They are fast to put on or take off but only can hold the heat for a few seconds. I get them cheap from Harbor Freight and can easily replace them if they get too dirty.

Sorry could not stop laughing about this, as I know what you mean. That is what I meant by saying one of these days the food is going to squirt right out of my hands with my big orange ones also..

Sorry about your hand not listening to you sometimes. Hope you can find something that works well for you.

I have a question along this topic and I saw latex mentioned earlier in the thread.

Does it matter latex vs nitrile? Is there any reason for one over the other?

Due to my career, I have access to either readily and use latex every day as it has better dexterity. I simply ask patients if they have an allergy prior to use.

Thanks,

Mud

Silicone oven mitt. There are short ones and long ones and several different grip styles and you can get them really oversized or more form fitting if you prefer. I can take a butt off of a grate and just point my hand down and give it an iggle jiggle and the mitt will slide right off so I can then open the door to walk into the house.

Almost zero dexterity needed.

Other than allergies, I believe nitrile are a bit more durable, and better resistant to heat.

Good morning fxsales1959 fxsales1959

I've owned a couple pairs of these, and like them pretty well. They have a cotton lining, but the lining is fixed to the outer PVC exterior, so dexterity should be no issue.

That being said, I really like using the cotton gloves with nitriles over them. Provides the best dexterity, and quite heat resistant too.
