I have a rather strange question for you guys. It concerns the rubber grips on grill tools such as tongs, spatulas, etc. I'm on my second set from two different mfg. and both have exhibited the same issue. The rubber grips after a period of time become sticky. No amount of washing or cleaning has any effect. They remain sticky. I've used several different solvents in an effort to remove this stickiness ( is that a word? ) but nothing seems to address the problem. I believe it is some aspect of the rubber these two companies used but admittedly don't know for certain.

Have any of you experienced this? If so, did you find an answer?

I just recently bought the Pit Boss brand soft touch rubber handled bbq tools & I was wondering if this will eventually happen to these tools. I had this thought in my head when purchasing, guess only time will tell.

If my bbq tools do get sticky, I will just cover my handles in leather.

Maybe try dipping them in Plasti-Dip to coat them. The handles that is.

Hopefully this will not occur on yours. I will say that it took months before this problem appearred on mine.

Never had the need for them. Standard tongs (metal tips) have always worked fine for me.

My outdoor utensils all have wooden handles. My inside utensils have rubber/plastic. They're quite a few years old and I've never noticed them getting sticky.

The indoor tongs are made by oxo.
