Ann and I tried a new campground last week. Geneva on the lake. https://www.sunoutdoors.com/ohio/sun-retreats-geneva-on-the-lake Located on lake Erie in Ohio. It was about a 4 hour drive from our place.
The area is huge. With decent sized camp sites. We were within 100 feet of a stocked pond.
When we got there. I wasn't impressed with the pond. Lined in stone. And looked more ornamental then a actual fishing pond. So, I didn't even bother taking out my fishing gear since I didn't see anyone fishing in this pond. Or the other pond. After getting set up. And getting something to eat. I saw a couple of kids heading to the pond with poles. So, I dragged one of our chairs over to the pond. And cracked a beer and watched them.
Sure enough, in a few minutes they caught a couple sunfish. And a catfish about a foot long.
I saw enough. The next morning. I jumped on my trike. And went to the camp store to get some worms. With bobber fishing. I got a couple cats, a white bass, and a few blue gills. Nothing to write home about. Next, I tried bottom fishing. After about 30 minutes. I caught a fairly decent cat. About 16 inches long.
Then, a kid about 100 feet away brought in a nice cat. Around 20 inches long. He looked over and said try a hot dog!
Well. Ohio fish love Zweigle hots!! Brought in about 12 cats. all around 20". And this.
Biggest Bullhead I've ever caught! And it hit the hotdog like a freight train!
Next catch was another first for me.
At first I thought it was a white river cat. But then I noticed the pink eyes. It is an albino cat! Never heard. Or saw them before. But after googling them. There is such a thing. Over the next two days. I caught and released close to 30 fish. We already booked a site for next year!
