My oldest son on Thanksgiving had to blow up a mattress for the little ones to sleep on; he used his compressor. Unbeknownst to him the compressor was plugged into the same circuit as his back freezer; he thought it turned off but it actually popped the circuit breaker. The next day he discovered his freezer had been off overnight. Everything was still cold, but thawing. He pattied and cooked all his bulk sausage and refroze, but the extra turkey was thawed too much, and a pile of steaks had to be dealt with. So, we brined the turkey for smoking next weekend (what a pity we have to have smoked turkey AGAIN.. oh well... :)) and broiled up the steaks and reluctantly had to have a big steak feed last night - it was rough, but it had to be done.. :).
Found a couple links for some freezer monitoring alarms:

Plus also for the DIY a schematic too, with description (2nd link):

Thought this might help others who aren't so fortunate to have caught it in time; a few bucks now can save hundreds later.
