A guy shows up at work yesterday and says "Want some wood for your smoker?" I sez "what ya got for me Vern?" cause Im always up for free wood. He sez "Locust." Well I never heard of cookin with locust so I said "Nope." He sez "How bout some pine?" "Vern, pine will make ya sick ya know." He sez "I know."....Wow....I said "Thanks a lot Vern but I dont think so." Then he sez "How bout some oak?" Well my ears perked up a little but I soon remembered this is the guy that tried to get me to cook with pine. So I said "I think I got all the wood I need for now, Thanks anyway Vern." So he took the whole mess to the landfill and Im stuck cookin with hickory and mullberry. Missed a chance for some good pine I guess.

My Daddy used to say "cook liver with pine."

Throw away the liver and eat the pine.

ive never heard that cooking with pine would make u sick. is that true? all i know is not to burn it cause it smells up the place.

I spoke with a guy the other day that goes to grocery stores and gets old oak pallets and uses that wood. Seems sketch to me, but what you guys think?

My great uncle used to use them too. Just gotta watch out for any oil on 'em I remember him saying. Used to get the newer looking ones. I have never done this, but I have plenty of wood available.

Pine is fer your Christmas tree, the good woods go in da smoker! Gotta watch the processed woods, never know whats been on em or what they were treated with. Not worth gettin sick over.

I agree, when in doubt chuck it out-out to the fire pit that is. this is the time of year we like to sit out by the fire & listen to the live country music comming from the dude ranch close by- or the pow wow's.chips for smoking are pretty cheap around here.

I wouldn't have pine anywhere near my smoker, not even the chair I sit in. Oh yeah, I have some of my smoking wood stacked on pine 2X4's, oh well.
