Nice score! There's a place not far from me that sells 5 gallon pickle buckets with lids for $2. I need to grab a few to do some bacon soon

I go down to the local Burger King whenever I need an F.G. bucket. The only time I walk through their doors is when I need a bucket, I refuse to eat anything fast food.
They give me the taller green 6 gallon buckets for free.
KFC wanted $6 for 5 gal F.G. buckets, nope, not happening.
I also store flour, and dry beans and pasta in them, under our indoor stairs.

I used a Firehouse pickle bucket as a bait bucket for a loooong time. It never quit smelling of pickles.

For bacon I recommend 2.5 gallon Hefty brand ziplock bags, They hold 5lb slabs with room to spare. I put 2 slabs in a bag. I used to be able to buy Ziploc 3 gallon bags at the Kroger affiliate but they quit carrying them.

The Hefty's run about 4 bucks for a box of 10. All of the local grocery stores and the Mart sell them.

Bakeries are great places to score smaller than 5 gallon buckets.

Bakery at the grocery store chain back in MN gives away the 5 gal pails that come with icing.
I haven't asked at Publix as wife says I don't need any buckets.

I need a good one for wet casing storage.
I was lucky enough to save a bucket for casings from TSM . That's what I keep hog casings in .
I use one of these for sheep , you can get them at the grocery store .

Look for a triangle with a number 2 or 5 in the middle . The above are a code 5 .
Food grade / storage .
The buckets are usually a code 2 . High impact long term food storage .
If you have any seasoning jars from TSM , those are a code 2 .

Many, many moons ago when I worked at DQ we sold buckets for a buck or two. Pickle buckets and candy buckets if you want to avoid the pickle smell.

They are a bit expensive, but for anything you use regularly, look into Gamma Seal lids if you haven't already. They seal well and are SOOOO much easier to open (especially for your wife).

And I brought back a few pounds of flour-----zzzzz

What's weird is a few of the pickle buckets that I've had, did the same, you couldn't get rid of the pickle smell, and others of the same color and brand had zero pickle smell after a couple of washes. I never got that or what the difference was between them.

I used to do the same at McDonald's. I asked a couple of months ago and was told the empties were returned to the supplier.

Maybe they were blowing smoke, but no buckets for me...
