Flat or Pointed?

I would be seriously surprised if you could buy a point just by itself...Briskets will come as a flat or a packer (usually cryovac package) that has the flat and the point as well. If you get the flat and the point, you can cook the flat till done, separate the point and make some delicious burnt ends out of that...That is my personal preference.
 
Nothing wrong with smoking a flat, nothing at all. Many do it. But you will get a larger amount of meat if you find a nice big packer to put in the smoker, plus, you can make some tasty tasty burnt ends with the point.
 
I agree - go with the whole brisket and do burnt ends with the point - mouth is watering just thinking about them
 
Packers are my first choice but if I can't find one I'll do a flat just a matter of preference
 
It seems to me that those of us in the Midwest Cattle Country are more fortunate than those of you living on the coast as we have readily available most any cut of beef or pork...
