Hey guys, I'm Nick from Northern Kentucky. Glad I found this site. Everyone on here seems really friendly and helpful. I have my own welding business and came across a 125 gallon diesel fuel tank that I want to use to make a reverse flow smoker. I started doing my research and you guys really know your stuff. Can't wait to get started so I can start smoking.

to SMF!  We are so glad you joined us!

We love to see pictures of what you are cooking (or what we call q-views here at SMF).  To "upload the q-views" just follow the directions here and it will be easier. If you are using a cell phone, an IPad or a kindle, go to the main SMF page and click the Mobile button. Will make the uploads a bit faster too.

If you didn't read the "Terms of Service" notes.....please do.  There are a few things that everyone should know about those pesky little rules before plunging into the forums and some guidelines of how to interact within the forums. Off site links are not allowed here at SMF per TulsaJeff. Not that you have done anything wrong....just a little bit of FYI for new members!

If you need any help roaming around the forums....just holler!  Happy to help out!

Here are my dimensions . We had a piece of 18" pipe laying around so we decided to build me a RF smoker. We split the pipe and added 4" (we also had that laying around. Hind site I would have gone 12 " but I like what I've got and it cooks great.. We have got two tanks on the ground waiting to become pits. may take one and add some in the middle.

Looks great! My tank is a 30" diameter by 49" long cylinder. Still trying to decide if I want to add wheels like you did or put it on a small trailer. Where did you get those wheels you have? I hope the wall thickness of my tank is thick enough. Haven't cut into it yet but I'm figuring its probably 3/16". Did you use regular high temp paint? Thanks for the pics.

We did use High Temp paint.  Made the wheels  Had a piece of 12" pipe cut off 2 - 2" pieces with a band saw used 5/8" round rod for spokes and 1" pipe for hub. Pretty easy and fast to make. Used Wife's cloth measuring tape to lay out spoke spacing, WE have made several sets of these everyone seems to like them. You can use any size that works for your particular project.. You can also cut a template out of plywood and use flat bar if you want to go quite a bit bigger.

Let me know what you guys think. The piece on the very bottom is a pullout tray for ashes.
