*Disclaimer, this is not a pretty post, you have been warned
I went to see The Boondock Saints 2 yesterday (awesome movie) and on the way home I passed by a huge Asian market so I stopped to browse.
I came across something that I just had to buy becuase I have never tried it before and it was just a really weird item.
Preserved duck eggs, those black eggs that you would see on fear factor except these weren't fermented only preserved.
As soon as I took them out of the plastic I could tell this wasn't going to be fun, even through the shell they stunk.
Decided if I was going to do this I was going to do it right so I threw a couple of them into the smoker over pecan for about 45 minutes.
Here they are out of the smoker
Here is where things start to get bad, peeled and sliced pics and yes, that is runny yolk in the middle.
Looks yummy right?
So with the foul aroma wafting up towards me I sprinkled with a bit of salt and lots of pepper
The verdict? Not something I would consider good. No offense to anyone who may actually enjoy these things but the texture/flavor and especially the smell were all pretty bad. Did the smoke help? I don't know, at that point I don't think anything could have helped.
I thought about picking up a few more boxes and sending them to some members but figured that just wouldn't be a nice thing to do.
My apologies to anyone who may have gagged over this post but at least you didn't have to eat it
