Thank you very much for all your input i think i know what i need to do now. Here are some pics of my smoker to help you unstand what i have.

The fire box is 16 X16 X 40" deep. There is a four inch pipe on the side of it to allow air inside, it's only 8" long, just enough to get thruogh the block.





This pic is the inside of the fire box.




This next pic is the smoking chamber. It is 16" wide X 3' tall and 40" deep. it is directly above the fire box with only a water drip pan separating the two. then i have another 4" pipe out the top to allow the smoke to exit. let me know what you think. I think i need a bigger pipe on top or maybe just remove the rain cap while i'm smoking and see what that does.

I would go with less smoke. Remember if you smell wood burning, you're smoking.

Looking at that pic, the guy on the right has it right. The guy on the left is either skeeter control or he's putting up a smoke screen to hide the good 'que nextdoor. lol
