Well my Daughter is graduatiing from High School this year and next weekend is the party. I am going to make a big leap for this party Wife sent out a little over a hundred invites. So I am going to smoke pork butts and chuck roasts to pull. My fear is running out of meat but I think I have plenty (24 -3 lbs chucks and a dozen 7-8 lbs butts) I am going to layer up 2 or 3 of the chucks and tie them together before smoking them. Has anybody tried this? Since they are not real thick I figure they should make about a 9 lbs roast when I do this. Also it will make less loads in the smoker. I will try to take some pics of the progress if I am not too busy. Could be interesting since I usually only smoke a couple things at a time in the smoker. One thing when my Son graduates I will know if I can pull it off for sure!!

Good luck with the party MRH...would love ta see the pics of your smoker loaded up!

Ya your nuts, from IOWA aint ya?
You should have plenty of meat
56# of butt=33#finished=approx 135 1/4# sammies
72# chuck=approx 57# finishes=225 1/4# sammies

Good luck and congrats on your dot graduateing

Congrats on your daughter's graduation.

Looks like you will have leftovers. That's a lot of meat. What kind of rig do you have to do that kinda volume??

, it's all about the smoking experience. yeah, right until you have 1 hr before dinner and 2 hrs left of smoking to do.. LOL

Good luck again, don't forget the Qview

Congrats on your daughter's graduation. Mine just graduated on Friday I really had no time to cook just served cold cuts fruit pickle cheese and cake And oh yea a keg of beer and numerous other beverages.

Good luck with your cook it's a nice personal touch

I have a Bradley and a SnP. I figure I will do most in the SnP. I have been putting a turkey fryer burner in the firebox for heat, then use a coffe can with wood cips covered with foil and holes poked in the foil for smoke above the burner. So nothing very big, but I have 4 days off next week. I am hoping to get it all smoked in 3 days with a day extra just in case. Also that is a hundred invites there could be 200 people depending how many show!

Sounds like you have a good plan and congrats on your daughter's graduation

sounds like a plan....congrats on the grad. Seem's your a bit worried on how many folks r commin?......try and get an r.s.v.p going so you can get a better ball park figure to save yourself some time so your brain doesnt go to mush stressin

Yep, it's official, you're nuts. Good luck on the smoke. I don't know this to be fact but I don't think that tying the chuckies together will be quite the same as have 9# versions. Because the meat isn't actually connected it won't cook as if it were one piece. You can probably do it, but I'd keep a close eye on the temps and keep checking all 3 in each of the tied up rolls.

I'd recommend doing it all the day before, pulling, then reheating the day of.

Where in Iowa r u? We might have to crash the party.

Dude,

Yep the plan is to do the butts one day, pull and into the fridge. Then the chucks the next day just like the butts, then all into the roasters the day off to reheat. I am near Kalona, a couple hours away from ya.

Thanks everybody for the words of encouragment. I am not stressing too much, just would hate to run out of meat.

Sounds like a blast! Got one planned for the 17th here, about 40 peeps + family.

Don't forget all your other needs for the feast: sides, drinks, cups, plates and such...in case you didn't put a list together.

Have a great time! I be watching for your results!

Eric

Kalona....HMMMM...........You got a cheese factory, CHEEZE CURDS!!!

Congrats to your kid too! Are you smoking meat for the party too? Plenty of sides here too, 2 different tators, Green beans, pasta salad, wrapped pickles, and some fruit.
