If your temps dropped after you sealed your door then your stack is not drawing enough and yes, you need a bigger stack.Been almost 10 years i have made a few changes and today i changed out the smoke stack. Long story short I have dealt with a leaky (not bad) cc door. So a few weeks back decided to seal it off. And low and behold I could not get the CC above 165°. Cut and scraped the seal off as I was at a competition and hadn’t cooked with it sealed. Well once scraped off I could get my temps back to 250° no problem. It has no problem getting to 500° if I want it too.
The smoke stack was 3” and 36” above CC. I had to cut it down to 21” to get it in my trailer and made an exrension to go on it. So I cut the 3” out and put a 4 1/2” stack on it. I will make a 15” extension for it as well. I haven’t welded in iver 3 years and it shows. I need to practice as I will me starting a new smoker in June. Gere are a couple pics.
Here it is putting in work.
