I was issued wool long underwear in Basic Training long, long ago....

Best stuff ever! The new synthetics like polypropylene don't come close...
I think the ones I have are synthetic. I have a 20 years old wool union suit that I go to for long periods in cold. They are amazing.

Just finished clearing a couple inches of snow in our 3F / feels like -14F weather. Multiple layers including military grade insulated underwear and I was toasty warm. The laughing sure makes taking the dogs out a longer process lol. They love it and want to stay out and play.
My Dobie doesn't care much to go out or be out long unless I go out and play with her... then she forgets about the cold. Even then I don't let any stay out too long in our current temps.

High of 7 today with some cold arse temps for tonight. Nearby Mt Washington was 50 below with the wind chill factor this AM and I'm sure some fool is going to try to hike it ! :(

Got up to 3 degrees this morning . Had fifty 2 days ago . At least the snow and ice melted
Typical for Missouri this time of year .
Used to work out it it all day . I never figured out how to get staying home to
pay the bills .

Just a idea for guys that aren't used to these conditions .
Use cooking spray on the gasket on the bottom of your garage door and the weather stripping on your cars or trucks . Keeps them from sticking , and maybe ripping when you force the door open .
Oh yeah! I remember that! I went to fort lost in the woods for basic in Jan.

Sounds warm to me. -15 when I woke up. high today is around 0-1. wind chills are -35 to -50. really hope the winds dont come. either way, I cleared the snow off the driveway and will be inside for the rest of the day.

December for me.

Left Syracuse in a squall. Arrived at Leonard Wood in a snow storm...

Bivouac in the snow was a real eye-opener for "camping"....

Two dudes each with a thin sleeping mat, a sleeping bag in a shelter made from 2 pieces of canvas.

You know what I'm talking about.

Absolutely froze sleeping on frozen ground after digging out 3 feet on snow with entrenching tools...

Gotta love Army training!

I expect there ain't a loaf of bread or jug of milk to be had anywhere, either lol.
Sad but true....growing up, when our local weatherman predicted 6 inches of snow overnight, nobody freaked out. Only 6 inches...

These days schools, courts, libraries, Legions, VFWs close their doors at the rumor of 6 inches.... pathetic but true.

A slight dusting predicted around here, and people buy up all available bread and milk from the stores as if they will be snowed in for days or weeks lol.

Same. Schools never closed or opened late, you just got dressed and walked in the snow, cold whatever there was. Folks here are seem to think AWD/4X4 with studded tires are required or you will die. Back in HS I drive 2WD truck and a VW bug all winter, ever up to ski areas. Everybody has gone soft...

We did have delays and closures, but it had to BAD!

I grew up in northern NJ. If the snow came early enough for the town to get the sidewalks clear for us walkers, school was on. If not, we got the rare snow day.

I might have gotten a little soft... or smarter as I'd like to think... no more going out to see if a vehicle will start or need a battery charger... my vehicles are kept in 50 heated garage or shop.
But will admit... the wind on the face was raw today.
