Hey Guys,
Yes it is me again. I have a rather odd question about smoke generators. Is there a difference between drawing the smoke up or down through the generator. I have seen them with the draw tube at the top and bottom of the generator. I have also seen the DIY builds with both. So I am confused. Can you help me out with this very complex and confusing problem.
Thanks a lot Guys (and Gals)

Hello Bud,
they work both ways, however the top nozzle produces cooler smoke than the bottom nozzle set, neither make what you would call hot smoke, so if you have a small smoke box and want to smoke cheese for instance the top nozzle design will be easier to maintain low temps for cold smoking.

The down side of top nozzle is that the smoke must rise up through the chips and or pellets to get to the nozzle, this brings all the moisture from the burning wood up through the fuel, this is a problem anyway if using pellets because they then swell, break up and bridge. In addition because the air is drawn from bottom to top the burning or smoldering can and will follow the oxygen up and burn up the fuel faster.

I run the bottom nozzle design and like it just fine, but I’m also smoking in a 3x3x7’ smokehouse, YMMV.

Whoops, You gave me an answer and I read it but forgot thank for your time. Sorry about that. I do appreciate the time and answer. I am just older than dirt, according to my grand-children.
A few years ago, they asked and since I would not tell them (except to say "I am as old as my tongue and a little older than my teeth") they said "I had to be at least 97 years old." Mean little kids, Yes, they were only 9 and 7, but they were getting 'A's in math. And I was only in my 40's
