Will someone help me out with what may amount to a stupid question. I want to build my own smoker but I would like to know what the differences are with the four listed in the title?
I don't know where to start. I would suggest reading the articles at our forum admin's site to get a basic idea. Jeff does a good job of explaining the differences. Once you've done that, browse through the different sections of this forum. There are sections dedicated to the four things mentioned in your post title. Folks have posted pictures of their rigs in action and modifications that they have done.

FWIW, I started with a GOSM propane smoker and have added a CharGriller charcoal/wood smoker. I use both.

Keep asking questions, the folks here will make answer.

Oh BTW, Welcome to SMF!

Hope this helps!

Take care, have fun, and do good!

No such thing as a stupid question... the only stupid question is the one that remains unasked.

Welcome aboard!
thanks guys for the quick responses. I'm just looking to build my own ,as I have a little chief right now, a good sized one and would like to know what people think about the types they use

It all goes to your preference.

I am a die hard Charcoal/stick burner. It goes back to the primal nature of man & fire even though I work for a propane company.

Electric & propane require (based on what I have read here) much less tending. The stick burner & charcoal burners require much more "art". is reader supported and as an Amazon Associate, we may earn commissions from qualifying purchases.
