OK. I have put it off for years and was supposed to do it last week but changed the appointment so I could at least have the memorial day weekend for a smoke (did chicken, it was great!), but tomorrow AM I am finally getting four impacted wisdom teeth extracted.

I am not fishing for sympathy here, just want to let you all know I will be here over the next few days poppin pain killlers, eating through a straw, looking longingly at your beautiful q-view and looking forward to the choppers working well again. This place is great and it's gonna get me through the hard times. Have some great smokes over the next few days and I'll be back soon (although not likely with milkshake q-view).

Cheers!

Hey Steve - feel your pain there ... had mine out when I was 16, all were impacted too.

You'll be ok and back to smoking in no time!!!

Sorry about the pain you will be experiencing...

About your milk shake: why not? Obviously frozen doesn't do heat, but components do. Why not smoke some vanilla beans and cream in a cast iron skillet. When everything cools, grind up the vanilla goodness, and whip up a batch of home made ice cream. Since you're most likely not going to be up to doing this when you're laid up anyway, while you're smoking the vanilla and cream, throw some chopped pecans or walnuts on a screen in the smoker as well. Make sure you're choppers are healed before you try the nuts, eh?

Again, sorry for your pain, and we'll be thinkin' about you.

Good luck with this. I had two removed a few years back and had a rough couple days. My oral surgeon didn't want me to drink with a straw, it creates a pressure vacuum in your mouth and can pull your clots off, and leave you with a dry socket which you damn sure don't want. They also don't want you to drink alcohol, or citrus juices as these can breakdown clots too. That being said, we had a Mardi Gras party a few days after, and I was sucking hurricanes through a straw. I got lucky.

Steve!!
Although I do not have four, just one and it is coming out on Friday, I am feeling your pain....Popping the pain killers, looking at Q-VUE, Ditto my friend!!!!...Here I was feeling sorry for myself...Sorry you have four of the darned things...YIKES....
I wish you a speedy recovery, and a wonderful "back to yourself" 'SMOKE FEAST"

Good luck! For what it's worth, I don't remember the soft food diet lasting very long for me. I think my desire for good food outdid the pain.

Also, Motrin worked far better for me than the Vicodin that I was prescribed. I had some 800mg tablets left over from a previous injury, but you can take a couple over the counter (200mg, if I remember right) instead... keep in mind that I was 6' 250lbs at the time... scale accordingly.

If you have problems with the sockets bleeding, a black tea bag is supposed to help stop it.

Good luck on the dental work Steve. I have one left that will come out sometime. I had the other three come out (one at a time) over several years. Wish I would have had all 4 done and over with. It's not so bad after the extraction. More of a dull soreness than pain. Stay away from Doritos.

Just had mine taken out about 2.5 months ago. All 4. Hope for general anesthesia, it makes it far easier. I remember nothing from the time I went under until I stumbled out of the car with my wifes help and into the house. 4 hours later. Then, another gap of numerous hours while I slept.

I did have a problem with bleeding for about 6 hours, and the teabag does work, but it tastes horrible. Freeze some damp washcloths to keep on your jawbone, you won't regret it. Use them for 2 or so days.

By the next day, I was only moderately sore when I tried to open my mouth wide, hence the need for soft food. Course, I was also taking vicodin and ibuprofen like candy, so who knows how much pain there really was.

Within 3 days no more vicodin, though I did take the ibuprofen for almost 1.5 months at 1600 mg per day, and I once tried to skip a dose to see if I was ready. Bad idea..... According to my oral surgeon, the healing takes longer as you get into your later 20s, I'm 26.

My only complaint is that my jaw still gets extremely tired quickly. I have a love for chewy, sweet candy (skittles, haribo gummy bears, etc) and my jaw is still not up to speed, so I had to slow down on those.

Good luck.
