If it looks as good as that pork crown roast last weekend did, I may have to drive to Texas and get one myself

Hi all

Been inn the retail meat business for 25+ years......A crown roast is made from a the rib portion of the animal, but in this case I m not sure what they are calling " the Crown"............beef ribs are usually at least $5-$6 lb.

i went and looked at them. all it was, it looked like to me, was a big steak, pretty thick. we have a guy at work (the one i told about this site, that has been doing comps for years) that told me to asak if they have any that are not cut up yet. i might go ask them, if they are on sale still.

I'm with vulcan and tsulcoski on this one ,never heard of a crown roast of beef ...it would have to be the whole prime-rib cracked and tied to look like the crown pork roast ,would cost lots of dollars.
From the description you give sounds possible to be a bone-on crossrib roast....maybe someone is calling it this as a selling gimic ??
Show us a picture if you do one,T-bone.

Wow any cut of beef for 1.79 lb. is a steal.  Can't even get dog bones for that up here.  Well can't be a prime rib because that's the only way you can make a crown but in almost 40 years as a butcher, I have never seen one done that way or even have someone ask for one.  I don't know why you even would want one done that way.  Ruin a lot of good meat that way.  My guess is that it is a cross rib roast or a bone in arm roast.  Cut's of meat have different names all accross the country so that's why some of us haven't heard of this one.  If I lived down there I would pick myself some up real quick.  Cheapest chuck roasts up here are around under 4 bucks a pound for choice black angus.  Reinhard
