Gov. John Hickenlooper has issued an executive order that bans open burning and the private use of fireworks in Colorado.
The restrictions in the state and county mean that camp fires are only allowed in established fire grates in developed  campgrounds. Charcoal grills, hibachis and wood-burning stoves are not allowed.

Really going to hurt camping, but hopefully it'll curtail anymore wildfires. There is another burning about 20 miles west of where I live - it's the second one this week. The first burned 70 acres on public and private land and apparently was human set. The second was started by a lightening strike last night and has burned about 20 acres so far. The fire near Fort Collins is still burning.

Guess when I add another smoker it will be a propane one.

Dang that sucks. I hope you all are safe.

Fine here and thanks!

I've lived here a long time and this is the first state wide burn ban that I can recall. I lived here when the huge Hayman Fire burned over 200,000 acres. Ready to evacuate at a moment's notice then...it was pretty close. It's the poor people up near Fort Collins with that one raging that I think about.

Thank you. We now have a third fire burning near the same area as the two last week. This one is really burning with the high temps, dry conditions and no rain...since 1:00 pm yesterday it is now up to about 600 acres.

I have had the Ft. Collins smoke wake me up a couple times way over here in Louisville.

They actually banned firepits too. Only liquid gas stoves/grills are allowed. I'm glad the ban is on because there are a lot of idiots that don't care.

Also, just heard today that if you spot an open fire it's MANDATORY to call the sheriff immediately because it's like a $600 fine or so.. It's dangerous out there.. Let's all do a rain dance.

I'll bet it has. We've had smoky haze from it, the one burning about 20 miles to the west of me and NM fire. I hadn't heard about the firepits or the Mandatory to call the sheriff. Are those state or local government? We need a huge rain dance! We're already having temps in the mid to high 80's and that's unusual here this time of year.

Good luck you guys - I know about fires being frightening - they evacuated the entire town of Fallbrook during our last big fire a few years back after loosing 100 + homes in one complex. Be safe

Statewide. A friend who is a firefighter just told me yesterday. I'm not sure if it's all over the news or not but that's just what I was told. Many towns are canceling their fireworks for fourth of July. It was 98°F in boulder Monday.. We actually have overcast skies this morning so maybe my rain dance did some good!

I haven't heard about it or read it anywhere, and you'd think it would be all over the news with the fire burning so close here too. We actually have some relief from the heat today, it's only in the low 70's and cool tonight, but I see it's going to go back up fairly soon. Only a 10% chance of an isolated thunderstorm here

Ah yes...Boulder County...not state wide. The state wide ban does not supersede County Restrictions because some counties have stricter bans in force or may be upgrading like they did here in Teller County. The state wide ban allows private residence charcoal grills, but no open burning, and only if the county in which you reside doesn't have a restriction on charcoal grills etc. We have a Stage II ban, which means no charcoal grills or smokers, no wood smokers, no welding, no open fires essentially.

The National Forest still has a Stage 1 ban in place, so in developed campgrounds with their approved fire rings you can still have a campfire.

I considered a charcoal or wood smoker but I also know how often we have fire restrictions, so I'm going to go with propane!!!!

Seems the fire near me was allegedly caused by recreational gunfire. Now that's interesting and is being investigated. We've had 3 more small fires closer to me since this latest one started, but they have all been put out. Gonna be a long summer at this rate and it's been 10 yrs since the Hayman Fire and Missionary Ridge Fire.

Yes that is correct. I was reading an article tonight and realized I said 'state wide' on SMF and I meant Unincorporated Boulder County. They keep extending/expanding what "Unincorporated Boulder County" is too.

It's pretty scary how dry it is and hopefully we can get some rain soon.

There was just a propane leak on Pikes Peak by you. Traffic is standstill right now...

Yea I heard about the propane leak on Pikes Peak. Mostly tourists up the Pike Peak Highway, so shouldn't be too awfully bad.
Another fire burning in Fremont County west of Canon City...right along the highway and apparently it was sparked by mowing equipment.

I've never had this 'fire' issue in my life being from the Upper Midwest but now that I live here it's a whole new reality.. I really feel for those people who lost their homes... can't imagine... Prayers to them all for new beginnings.

It's a reality check that's for sure. I just saw the High Park fire is 55% contained. Now that is some good news. No I can't imagine what it would be like to lose everything but I certainly do hope for the best and offer all the prayers I can.

The 3 smaller fires I mentioned being closer to me...it turns out there were 7 and they are being intentionally set by one or two people. Some major sickos!
