It was 90 & 95 degrees last week until this cold front came through the last two nights. It got down to 45 degrees last night and we started getting firewood calls left and right. They went into a panic and we sold about 6 cords of wood today alone.
Not yet. Still got the mower deck on the John Deere. One more cut, then the chains and front blade. Gonna blow out the sprinkler system in a couple hours. Stake in my wind/snow break at the edge of the drive. Change furnace filter. Pound in driveway locator stakes...
Winter
R.T.
Tall, dark sentinels of the land
bow to Nature's iron hand
and close their mouths for winter's fast
void of breath
miming death
the time for growth has passed
Icy blasts that rent the air
like sharpened knives with glassy glare
and pile their refuse, high and deep
chilling white
freezing fright
the land has gone to sleep
All of life prepares itself
for frigid air and coldness' stealth
the cold will kill without a care
numbing sleep
Deadly deep
awaits the unaware
