Another Newbie Smoker

My name is Billy, I am an excellent homecook, but am new to smoking. The place where I used to get my meats smoked sold and the new owners are less than cooperative. So, I bought myself a Smokey Mountain gas smoker and decided I could do it myself. Having acquired many friends and helpmates over the years in various cooking forums, they directed me here, so here I are! I have as of yet not even fired up the smoker for the first time, wanting to pick some brains before I jump in.

I am from Roseburg, OR, with frequent trips to Stockton, CA, Portland, OR, and on up to Port Angeles, WA to visit my chef friends and pick their brains too.
